IBM thinkpad 600e error - upon startup a explorer error is encountered

The error will not allow computer to finish startup. An explorer pop says the program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. The detail only says explorer caused an invalid page fault in module unknown and then it lists a bunch of registers which are as lasrge series of letters and numbers. I can not do anything else but shut the machine off manually.

Hi
Any error means the file or files are corrupted on the hard drive and cant be read, only the re-installation of windows and the drivers will restore your pc or laptop backs to its original performance.

Save the data you want via safe mode if operational if not you have to remove the hard drive plug it into a adapter and plug that into a pc or laptop to access your data on the hard drive and retrieve.

Then re-install the hard drive and re-install windows and then the drivers.

This is the same solution for any pc or laptop that has hard drive errors and problems.

Cheers

If you are using windows 98 S.E. and if you got a startup disk or a separate windows 98 S.E CD-ROM, try to boot and use scandisk on your system, then if it has any error, and scandisk successfully fixed that one, try to load windows again, if the same error happens again, you have no other choice but to re-format your laptop and install the necessary software that matches your laptop's capacity. if you still encounter any problems or errors, you have to get yourself a new laptop.

IBM Thinkpad 600e (2645),error 189 and could not installing win98

Usually this means a hardware failure. I would suggest reseating the CMOS battery overnight to reset the system. Also you might want to replace it as well. It could also be more serious such as a motherboard component failure.
Also IBM error code # 189 according to Scott Mueller's Upgrading and Repairing PC's (8th edition) - "Excessive incorrect password attempts." Is there a password on your CMOS ?
Also try hitting ESC key on boot to bypass. Good luck!

Hand-me-down IBM Thinkpad 600E 2645 has blinking LCD video XP O/S

This sounds to me like either your flourescent lighting tube is beginning to go bad ,,, or the inverter is going bad ... or even both. :-)

The cheapest and easiest solution for you is to simply replace the LCD screen (replacing the inverter or the tube are actually a bit cheaper, but not quite as easy to do - most computer repair centers will try to talk you into a new screen anyway). This is actually very simple for either you or someone you know who is an avid "do-it-yourselfer". IBM makes ity very easy. You will find easy, detailed instructions in the ThinkPad 600/600E (2645) Hardware Maintenance Manual, IBM S10L-9619-03 June 1999 available for FREE downloading in .pdf format on IBMs website. Follow this link to some really sweet deals on LCD screens for your 600e on eBay for under $35.00. http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=ibm+thinkpad+600e+lcd+screen&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_sop=12&_dmpt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&_odkw=IBM+tube&_osacat=0

Remember you can always connect an external monitor to your ThinkPad until your new screen arrives if you have one. The manual should also give you instructions to change out the tube if you wish to save a few more bucks and try that route. Hope this will FIX-YA! Please leave your feedback and let me know!

Error 161 and 163

The ThinkPad 600E is at least 5 years old? If so, have you changed a RTC Battery (CMOS Back-up Battery) 3V Button cell type that goes somewhere inside the Laptop and sits on the System/Motherboard. I hope you put it back the right way polarity is critical. If not then i have no idea to what it is, though someone will be able to help also you might want to try http://www.computing.net/answers/hardware/ibm-thinkpad-bios-error-code/ good luck, Bastian
