Hello :

Try this: switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.

    Another suggestion :

Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can
spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or
whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several
replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is
worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.

I have a Kenmore canister vacuum. The problem is the the attachment called Pet Powermate doesn't spin very well

It isn’t the belt. Hair builds up in other places besides the brush. The device is made to come apart. Take it apart an clean out both ends on the shaft of roller brush. Remove tangled hair on the shaft and the brushes.

Did you ever figure out what was causing it? I’m having the same problem. Dissembled and cleaned it completely, but it’s still doing the same thing.

Brush is not spinning on the pet hair power brush

Those things work off of suction, which spins a cog wheel that rotates and spins brush via a small belt. Disassemble the brush and check belt. Make sure the apparatus is clean and free of debris

Brush won't spin when carpet cleaner is running

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
If the vacuum cleaner brush is not spinning, the brushroll bearing might be jammed. Try removing the brushroll assembly and cleaning all hair, string, lint, etc. from the brushroll bearing. If that doesn't solve the problem the brushroll may need to be replaced.

If the vacuum cleaner brush is not spinning the cogged belt might be broken, stretched out too much, or might have fallen off. Check the belt and replace as needed.

My spin brushes are not spinning. Took out the spin brush attachment - the main port that the attachment plugs into is not spinning. Is this repairable?

Sometimes it can be the inside rod of the brush barrel has resonated hair build up preventing the, what appears to be clean, brush. Check to see if either end of your brush wheels has a nut or can unscrew to clean inside it.

The turbo brush attachment on my bissell cleanview helix suddenly wont spin. I bought this vacum a month ago. there is nothing wrong with the vacum otherwise.

The turbo brush may just need to be cleaned. If hair or other large debris gets wrapped around the brush, it can prevent it from spinning. Since the top of the turbo brush is clear, you can look in and see if there is a lot of hair wrapped around the brush. If so, you can open it up by removing the two screws on the bottom of the brush and popping the clear cover off, then cleaning all the debris from the brush (scissors work well if its hard to get dog hair off). Be careful to see how the brush goes back together as you take it apart.

If cleaning the brush doesn't fix it, the belt might be broken. As you're looking at the top of the brush, there is a little belt that goes from the brush itself to the large blue/green gear (it's red on some models) so that if you reach your hand in and turn the gear, the brush should spin. If this belt is broken or missing, it will need to be replaced. You can probably find a replacement belt online, or you can order a whole new turbo brush from the Bissell website for $24.99.

Same thing, brushes dont spin unless vacuum is tilted back

I had the same problem. Checked the belt, pulled out all the hairs, cleaned the hoses, but the agitator brush wouldn't spin at all or only marginally. Finally I removed the agitator brush altogether and found crud and accumulated in the small groove at the ends, creating friction. I cleaned it with a small knife (not the most technical of tools, but the only thing small enough I could find to fit in there, especially since it seems there's no way to pop off the end caps and clean them properly). This seems to have solved the problem for now...although I still can't seem to clean it enough to get that same 'pull' back. Good enough to clean up after three black dogs, though, since NOT vacuuming is NOT an option.

Roomba brushes won't spin

I had this problem with my Roomba Discovery. I ran across your question while searching for an answer. My main symptoms were, Roomba hesitated a lot, and the dust bin did not fill. I had plenty of hair wrapped around the brushes and against the filter.
I just finished taking my Roomba apart. I found the motor drive shaft had a LOT of hair wrapped around it and it had climkbed into my gearbox. I took that apart and cleaned all the hair out of the gearbox. My Roomba is back to normal now, filling the dust bin.
