Your 'old' DVD player is the problem. It is unable to 'read' picture files. Time to put the COBY away and upgrade to a DVD player that can read .jpg, .jpeg images. Most new players do and they are not that expensive.

You should also download ALL your pictures to your computer. You can delete those you don't want to keep. Then format the card in the camera. If you instead keep deleting some and shooting more, eventually you WILL have problems with the card.

I had a similar problem recently - the computer wasn't even recognising that it was plugged in. I eventually took the battery out and charged it up, then later it worked perfectly. I hope this is helpful to you.
