My Maytag Neptune Frontload dryer is not working. It had been running about an hour and I noticed a horrid smell - smelled like electrical burning of some sort. It had stopped running and when I pressed the button to start, I heard a "click" from the back of the machine but it did not start. I unplugged it. Hoping there's a fix besides replacement of the entire unit. Any help is appreciated. =]

burning smell is because the drum is not rolling and the motor is trying to turn, hopefully it did not damage the motor: more then likely it the drum rollers/glides, might want to check the idler arm here is a website that will help. depending on fast you need your dryer a good and cheap place to buy parts is on eBay, of course they can be purchased locally, Good Luck Tim:
Sounds like the motor went out. Before trying to start it it needs to be inspected. If you are not comfortable opening up the cabinet then I would would recommend calling a service tech. If you need further assistance please let me know. Ken
if its electric burning smell, its either a overheating motor, capacitor or both or burnt connections, sounds like a motor problem,it will be very hot to touch if its failing, check capacitor though as it could be causing motor to overheat, rating of cap is on side
The drum belt could be rubbing on something inside. Does the dryer make a squeeking noise? Se if there are small rubber particles on the bottom, this will indicate a deteriating belt.
Your exhaust vent is probably plugged. Remove venting from the dryer and check for lint build-up, and also check the vent flap on the outside of your house for clogs. If venting appears to be clear, you might have a bad blower (although you should notice an abnormal noise with that).
