Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

1 Answer

Trying to hook up the Linksys wireless router to my computer.

The disk that came with your brand name wireless router, a Linksys, says it does not support this wireless router, then I tried the technical support number where you do it yourself and it did not work and after that we had to reset the cable modem so that we were able to use the internet. What would be the problem? Robert Argenta.

Maybe you had a faulty piece of equipment. Return the product, and buy either another. By the way Net Gear are recommended best by Geeksquad for range, speed, quality, and how long they last.

OK to mix and match? Have Linksys router and a Belkin wireless G mimo ... Not sure how to hook any of it up?

How many computers/printers/etc are you trying to put on the network? If this is a home network, it's probably unnecessary to have 2 routers. Also, if you're only using the wireless router for laptops to connect to wirelessly, you should consider dropping the Linksys out of the network completely. On how to hook the two together, though, it really depends on what you're trying to do.

Can't access control panel for WRT54G router

go to your browser and paste this into the url field
192.168.1.1

you will be asked your admin name and password, (you entered these when you first set up linksys)

it should bring up your linksys admin page with all of your settings.

Do this on the computer that the box is installed on. You can adjust your WEP Code, Settings, Name on the network... Etc. Etc. Etc.

I believe that is the right one for this router, if not let me know.

Hi you have not mentioned your internet service provider ,,

However ,you can click on the link below to get basic information onhow to configure Wireless connection on the router.

http://register.wireless.utoronto.ca/?page=linksys

If the default user name or password provided in the link doesn't work then you will have to reset the linksys router to the FACTORY DEFAULT by pressing small "reset" button at the bottom of router all lights should go off briefly when you reset it.
After reset you can follow the steps given in the link.

Cheers

Hooking up a lap top to a router

You didn't specify if he has DSL or Cable internet.

With DSL, keep in mind the software1.gif on the PC is what "dials out" to the ISP with your name / password, and you MUST set the name and password in the router. Otherwise, ONLY the computer that has the software installed (verizon, etc) will be able to connect.

If you're using a cable connection, you don't have to do this, however, most newer Linksys routers come with a 'setup' disk, which MUST be used regardless of connection type.
