Hi timof, you need to get a phono preamp to hook in line with your turntable. There are lots of choices. Go here to get a cheap one online, or pay a visit to your local specialist HiFi shop. They will have them over the counter. The sky is the limit for this sort of thing. You can pay from $30 to $3000 for an add on box to do the same job. Good luck and happy turntabling:)

regards
Graeme

Volume Control

Turntables required a specific input all of their own, so you can't connect the turntable cables to any other input besides a "phonograph" or "turntable" Chances are the Sylvania Home Theater System does not have the specific turntable inputs.

If the player has a MD/MC pickup head, you need to use an input suitable for MD/MC
(Magneto Dynamic/Moving Coil). If that is not available, you need to buy a standalone
phono pre-amp (pre-amplifier with RIAA-correction curve). Like the TCC TC-400G/L.
Example: See HERE and some info HERE.

How do I hook up a home theater system to my sansui record player? DO I need any special hook up? Where is the volume controlled?

Some make and model numbers would have helped.

A traditional turntable requires a preamp inline with it to PRE amplify and frequency-balance (*) the minute signal produced by it's cartridge. Most stereo receivers and preamps have Phono connections and internal preamplification strictly for that purpose. Lacking a Phono Preamp you will have unusuable very low, tinny sound.

* Google "riaa equalization" for some background

Some of the newer turntables come with selectable internal preamplification to solve the lack of it in modern equipment.

Volume is always handled at the electronics.

Sadly, it is only a Home Theater System. It is not a Audio/Video Receiver. The only possible way to get around this is to buy a converter to hook into your RCA turntable to the ASC IN Jack in the front lower left corner as you are looking at it! Sorry, I hope this will help you...

Connect Onkyo CP-1020F Turntable to Theater System?

Yes. It needs to have Line Level (slightly amplified or pre-amp'd) before your home theatre system can 'hear' it.

Sound coming from speakers is very low.Turntable connected to a Sony home theater system has no jack for turntable. I have it plugged into the sat/tv/cd jack.

if there is no phono input on your home theatre amp, plug the turntable into the auxillary sockets and not the sat/tv/cd input as it wont work properly in that socket. if after putting the turntable into the auxillary socket it is still too quiet then you should purchase a specially made small pre-amp booster amplifier designed for turntables to inprove the signal to noise ratio from a reputable hi-fi shop/dealer. good luck
