Question about HP LaserJet 3055 All-In-One Printer

Scanner light stays on

Hi,

I have a brand new LaserJet3055 the scanner lamp stays on. I took to a repair depo they replaced the entire top scanner assembly and bulb.

I got it back and the same thing the scanner light stays on all the time left overnight and it is still on. When you make a copy it says "Scanner Bulb is Warming UP" then it immediately says "Ready to Copy" I would think this should take about 10 seconds but I guess the bulb is already on go it flys through the warm up step.

Anything can be done to fix this?

Bulb may be designed to stay on to last longer -- otherwise it may cost about $100 to replace if it wears out sooner due to on-off cycling.

In the manual for a different brand of "all in one copier scanner" etc (Brother), it says even though their default timeout is 5 min.(for all the other parts of the machine such as fuser), but the lamp time out is designed to stay on for 16 hours.  If you turn the machine on and off every time, the manual says the bulb will wear out sooner -- I guess that is probably the reason for the HP lamp as well.

I have the same problem. I chatted with HP customer care for an hour but it can't be fixed. The only thing you can do now is set the power saver mode to 2 hours, so bulb will turn off in 2 hours. Only way to minimum power consume.

Do I need a new scanner bulb?

It sounds very much as if the scanner is faulty/failed. The warming-up phase is to ensure that the scanner lamps output is steady, making for consistent scans. Usually this is just a simple timing circuit.
Having once tried to fix a broken flatbed scanner myself, I found that obtaining the correct replacement lamp for it was impossible - I think inkjet printers and scanners are considered "consumable". You may be better off buying a new printer. Alternatively, if it keeps producing good prints, consider buying a separate scanner. HTH

Reinstall scanner software. Scan again for SCSI devices, if controller does not recognise it, then the logic board on the scanner is faulty.

I'm sure the lamp replacement is not a difficult task but finding the lamp itself could be a problem since even the manufacturers are not very helpful.
Did you ask them if they carry the lamp?

I am having a problem with one of my Printers, it is a brand new printer, Model Canon Image CLASS MF 3222. It was running alright for about 2 weeks, now it displays on Printer LCD ( System Error 225 ).

If you open the scanner cover you should find that the scanner lamp is not lighting. as the machine is 2 weeks old it will be covered by the warranty. Telephone canon service to book at service call and it should be repaired free of charge.

I keep getting a message..."Scanner failure. Turn Power Off then On

The scanner is not able to calibrate. It can be a few things. Either the scanner lamp has reached the end of it's life and can not output sufficient light, the first surface mirrors in the scanner head are dirty (blocking sufficient light), or the calibration strip is dirty. That machine is what I would call decent. I would prefer it over a brand new model because it holds a substantial amount of ink. I would attempt to repair it, but would suggest taking it to a qualified shop, ask them about the problem and see if they can suggest any of these as possibilities before giving them the work.

Modle 5222, scanner error?? any suggestions?

sure you lamp lights up when machine is powered on. open the top cover, turn power on. lamp should light and scanner should move. if either of these do not happen you will need to replace parts. if the lamp lights and the scanner moves your ccd could be bad. you may need a service tech. if the lamp does not light it is your problem. lamp, power supply, ballest, or main pcb could be the problem

Epson Stylus CX5400 Scanner

If the lamp is not working their are two main possibilities. The first is that the lamp has failed and needs to be replaced. Buying a replacement MAY be dearer than buying a new machine - you will have to price the parts locally.

The second option is that the controller board for the scanner has gone. Again this could be an expensive part, but contact a local repair center or parts supplier to price the bits.

If you are successfull in getting the parts (you may buy a faulty machine off ebay with good scanner and bad printer to strip parts from) then this service manual will help you get to the parts you need:
