Hello, I have a Compaq Armada M700 laptop with Windows XP in spanish version installed. I have installed software of the wireless card and everything looks ok, but I can't obtain wireless signal. I saw that the infrared device is showing that the computer is missing SMC IrCC, so that, not sure if this is part of the issue.

Re: WPC54Gv3 is inactive
Sorry about translation as I haven't done Spanish in 40 years.

To get to the recovery partition on your Compaq Armada M700, turn on the notebook and press F11 repeatedly until "Windows is loading files..." displays on the screen. Then, follow the on-screen instructions.
If your notebook originally came with Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows, try pressing F10 to enter recovery instead of F11.
You will need to install NDIS in linux after the install to use the windows drivers for your wireless card if you have one. Sometimes older wireless cards will work but most of the time you need the NDIS to use the windows disk that comes with your wireless device(if you are using one) Your hard wired ethernet port should be detected automatically as well as all your other drivers(since the machine is old) Good luck..if you need any more help I will be around. No other compatibility issues exist, and it will run a lot faster than XP. I would suggest 512MB of Ram but 256 will handle it fine.
