Can I install Windows XP Professional on an Emonster 600 ?

Yes you can...

Installing Windows XP on a Emonster 600 is the same process as installing Windows XP on any Windows-compatible personal computer. The process is not difficult, and can be completed quickly.

#1 Insert the Windows disc and restart your computer. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press a key. Windows will begin the set-up process.
#2 When a list of hard drive partitions appears, delete each of them by pressing "D" to delete and "L" to confirm deletion. When finished, you should only have one choice: "unpartitioned space."
#3 Press "Enter", then format using the NTFS file system. Do nothing while Windows begins to install.
#4 Wait for Windows to restart. When the process continues, enter the product key, the time and time zone, and your name when prompted to do so. Allow the installation to continue; it may take some time.
#5 when Windows restarts again, continue the process using the on-screen instructions. The process will vary depending on your hardware configuration.
#6 Connect to the Internet and activate Windows once you reach your desktop. If you can't, you can also activate Windows over the phone. Installation is complete.

You need to re-install it using your disc not when your on Windows enable for it to install. Here are the steps to install Windows back in your system.

  1. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.

Note To boot from your Windows XP CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this.
  2. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
  3. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
  4. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows .
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Windows Setup.

These steps are similar to other Windows OS installations (Vista, Windows 7).
Below is the detailed procedure of installing Microsoft Windows XP:
  • Before installing Windows XP or any other operating system, you should backup all your data. Data can be backed up on a separate partition, if the hard disk is partitioned or you can back it up on external storage devices like CDs or on a network.
  • Restart the computer and go to the Setup menu by pressing F2 and change the first boot device to CD, press Esc and save settings.
  • Insert the CD labeled Microsoft Windows XP into the computer and restart the computer.
  • When the pc restarts, a message will appear telling you to press any key to boot from CD, press a key immediately the message appears and the setup process will begin.
  • After the files have been loaded, Windows will start and it will give you an option of repairing using Recovery Console by pressing “R” or continue with setup by pressing “ENTER”; press enter to continue with setup.
  • Setup will list all your disk partitions, highlight the partition where you want to install Windows, this is mainly partition “C”, press “D” to delete the partition, then press “L” to confirm.
  • Highlight the partition you deleted, and then press “C” to create a new partition, press “ENTER” to create the partition.
  • Press “ENTER” again to install Windows on the New (Raw) Partition you have created.
  • Format the partition using NTFS file system.
  • After format has completed, Windows will restart and setup will prompt you to boot from CD again. Ignore the message and let setup continue automatically.
  • Follow the next steps which will ask you to setup the system Time and Date, Network and enter a serial key, until setup finishes.
  • After setup has finished, Windows will restart and will welcome you for the first time; Microsoft Windows XP will have successfully been installed on your computer.

winsetupfromusb-install-program.png

2. Complete the setup. The program will start automatically once you have finished.
winsetupfromusb.png

3. Plug your pen drive into the computer and backup anything important from it as we are going to format it.
4. In the WinSetupFromUSB-0.1.1 window: click Refresh next the USB selection box. The USB pen you have just plugged in should now be visible in the drop down menu. Select it.

5. Insert your XP CD or mount an XP CD Image.
6. In the WinSetupFromUSB-0.1.1 window: click Browse, next to the Windows 2000/XP/2003 Source box, and navigate to the location of the XP Install CD.

8. Now Tick the Enable Disk Format box under Format Options and Tick Quick Format and Enable LBA (FAT16X). Also make sure that Enable File Copy is not ticked.
correctsetup.png

9. Click Start. Click Yes when the pop up asks if you wish to continue. Click Yes again when the pop up asks you if you are sure you wish to continue. When you get the Completed successfully message click OK and close PEtoUSB.
10. In the WinSetupFromUSB-0.1.1 window: Click GO. The Program will now create a bootable windows XP install on your USB pen drive.
11. Click agree to the “SYSINTERNALS SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS” pop up.
12. Click OK to the “This is Important” pop up.
13. The creation process is now complete: Take the newly formatted USB Pen and place it in the USB port of the target computer and turn it on.
NOTE: You must now read carefully what pops up on the screen as it will provide you with the hot-key (keyboard shortcut key) that, when pressed, triggers access to the BIOS. It is usually something like F1, F2, Delete or Escape.
14. Navigate the BIOS with the keyboard and find the section that contains your boot devices. With your USB drive plugged in, the USB drive should be listed. If it isn’t, your system might not support booting from USB.
15. Assuming that it is supported (as is the case with virtually all modern hardware), promote your USB drive to the primary boot device.
16. Exit from the BIOS configuration, saving all changes.
17. The computer will now reboot. Assuming that you have successfully compiled the bootable USB XP install and that you have successfully selected the USB device to be booted first in the bios a screen should appear which reads Windows 2000/XP/2003 Setup – First and Second Parts . Press Enter. You will now be presented with 2 options. Select Option 1 (first part) for the first stage of the installation process.
18. When the first stage setup completes and system reboots select Windows 2000/XP/2003 Setup – First and Second Parts, then Option 2 (second part) for the second stage of the setup.
DO NOT REMOVE THE USB PEN FROM USB PORT UNTIL YOU SEE THE WINDOWS START MENU

Windows XP SP2 Repair

Solution: Rename the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 folder to something such as catold to prevent WinXP's Setup program from locating the folder and halting the installation. If you are still in Setup, press SHIFT-F10 to launch a command prompt from within Setup. At the command prompt, type cd\win dows\System32 to open the System32 folder and then type rename CATROOT2 catold, press ENTER, restart the computer, and attempt the upgrade again.

If you cannot reach a command prompt from Setup, reboot the computer from a Win95, Win98, or WinMe startup disk and rename the folder from the command prompt. You can also launch a command prompt by booting from the WinXP installation CD and running the Recovery Console.
