Question about Pioneer PD-R609 CD Recorder
It says set-up to record but then returns to say 'check disc' even with new or different brand cd-rw audio discs. it also has trouble finalizing if i finally get one to record!! i have used disc cleaners etc..any help please?
You should use consumer cd's that are rather expensive. You probably tried to record a recordable cd-rom (a cheap computer disc). It's not possible to burn a pro-disc (computer disc) by using your Pioneer, and that's why you got that message on the screen. Refer to the user manual of your cd recorder and learn what sort of blank cd you should use.

You should be able to record without the remote control; make sure you have a blank disc in place, then press the 'RECORD' button on the front; it should go into recording standby mode. When you want to start recording, press the button below the REC BALANCE buttons (the play/pause button, marked with a triangle and a II symbol) and this should get you going.
Try it and get back to me if not.
Hope it works!

Here's a site that has the service manual and service guide (you need both). They have 2 copies of the service manual (the second and third links); you only need one of them.
