how do you hook-up c converter box to a TV/VCR combo TV

  • Bonnie Lind Dec 01, 2008

I cannot record on my VCR since installing the converter box. I followed the illustration for the hookup that came with the converter and I have tried various combinations of the switching Ch 3 and 4. The VCR is not using the converter box when recording. Help!

I have the same problem. I have hooked up the converter as described and still have the same issue. If the signal is digital signal getting to the TV/VCR combo and I am recording ch3 input, I do not understand why it can't record

You will need a splitter and an rf modulator to do timed recording of programs. The instructions are on the dtv answers website, option # 2, record and watch a different channel. The recording is for the analog stations 1-24. You cannot record the higher stations. The items I purchased were a 3 way splitter $7 at local hardware store, an rf modulator $25 at Radio Shack. The other option was to get a cable box for the tv and record off of that at $6.95 a month or a DVR for $8.99 per month, all from comcast. The price that I paid for the items I needed would be repaid in 3 months if I were to go the comcast route. The conversion is nothing more than a money making scheme for them.

You can record if you set it up the way yalmer said. You just can't do preset recordings anymore. You have to be at the tv and hit record when the show you want starts.

You need to put the antenna to the input on the digital box and put the output from the digital box to your tv/vcr combo(rf out).
If you have sound and picture component inputs(monitor inputs) on your tv, then you go from them on the digital box to the tv(red, white, yellow).

How do L set up the converter with a TV , a vcr and "Dish" satte

It sounds like you need a three way splitter.
You need to reverse the connections; the splitter has input and out. Hook exterior antenna, converter box, and satellite to the three side terminals (out). Hook the single sided terminal to VCR input. Connect the VCR out to the TV input. This configuration assumes that you will be using the VCR to record from all inputs. The TV has to be set to channel 3 to act as a monitor for your other devices.
Hope this solves your dilemma.

I want to hook a system

you will only be able to get digital surround( dolby digital ) from your dvd player( by the coax or optical digital connections ) , the rest will only be in virtual surround

from the dtv box plug the yellow video jack(RCA) into the vcr video input , then plug the audio jack or jacks into the audio input on the vcr. from the vcr hook the audio out to the audio in on the reciever( tv/vcr/sat... input ) , then also connect RF out from the VCR to RF in on the TV .
for the dvd player hook the "s-video out" to the "s-video in" on the tv , then the audio L and R on same s-video input , then send the audio out connection on tv to L and R input on reciever dvd L and R input , then you will need to connect the optical from the dvd player to the reciever or coax connections for the dolby digital on the reciever to work

Tv/vcr combo wrong cable channels

This could be one of two problems, either the TV tuner card is set up to accept the wrong type of signals (which normally can be changed in the menu of the television) or the card isn't capable of translating the signal (with most cable companies going over to digital signals with their boxes translating the signals over.) My suggestion is to check to make sure the proper signal type is set in your menu (if in fact this is even an option for this particular television) and if that doesn't work get a generic analog digital cable box.

Trying to hook-up analog converter....tv has built in VCR does this pose a problem

The converter box with go between your anttena and your tv using a coax cable, the cable should have come with the converter box.

The anttena should be plugged into the input on the converter box and the tv plugged into the output on the converter box.

DTA800B1 how or should I say why can I not see channels on the VCR when the converter is hooked up to it and the tv works just fine but will not set the channels on the vcr

instead of putting the converter box on ch4 ,put it on ch3 same as the vcr . set the converter box channel for the channel to be recorded, program the vcr to channel 3 for the channel to be recored. set the time and date on the vcr progam.tv does not need to be on for the program to be recored but the converter box needs to be on.

I had the same problem. Call 800-252-6123 for their customer service line. The wait was about 15 minutes, and when you call, it appears that no one picks up, but just hold the line and someone will answer.

Initial setup

well you would want the digital box to get the best signal, so from the wall plugs into the digital box, the digitalbox can the be plugged in to the vcr or the tv where the vcr would normally go. dont get thrown off jujst because it doesnt say digital box, the tv might have a component setup on the back, or hdmi or svideo to hook up to, if not, just run it through the analog port of av1 etc
