Question about Pioneer PRO-520HD 53" Rear Projection Television

TV not working

I have a 52" Pioneer elite HDTV Projection Monito PRO 520HD. It was working fine, then after a while it makes a popping sound then shuts off. I have to wait about 15-30 minutes before it will turn on again. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Same exact problem and same model Pioneer Elite. Seems to be overheating issue as it needs to cool down about 30mins, but then only lasts about 20min when it is turned back on. I've unplugged it overnight just in case there was some random static buildup or something, but same issues--maybe get 60mins of operation is just starting out. I guess I'll try cleaning out any dust, but I get the feeling there is more to it than that!

The most common issue on this model is the power board develops all kinds of bad solder connections--have to remove and in most cases hand solder the entire board.

Pioneer elite tv turns off from a pop sound and manual says-will

It is most likely the power supply. Do not try to fix this yourself. There are LETHAL voltages inside such a TV, which can persist for WEEKS after it has been turned off.

Our Pioneer Elite Pro-520HD turns off by itself.

These intermittent failures are hard to find. The "pop" noise you're earing might be cause by a coolant moisture near the high voltage connection, sometimes the coolant might leak onto the CRT causing the high voltage to arc creating a conductive pattern for the high voltage to discharge and that will also cause the TV to shutdown.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

Is the RGB computer-like jack at the rear of the Pioneer PRO-520HD projection TV a digital input like a DVI input? I'm trying to use the TV for BluRay discs. Chris Fox

The RGB input is like a computer monitor input, and may handle HD. I would recommend using component video instead for ease of use, but also most TVs will only handle a couple resolutions, but your component jack should handle 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i giving you flexabilty and a comprable picture.

Pioneer Elite PRO-520HD POPS the SHUTS OFF

It could be a couple of things doing it. The lead on the CRT , The Flyback and or splitter are just a few of the things that come to mind. be careful as thats high vorage and a arching CRT or Flyback lead can be very dangerous . It is usually best to callm in a professional for those kind of repairs and diagnosis unless your a skilled technician , let a repair shop handle the problem and be safe.

Pioneer Elite PRO-520HD wont stay on

It is most likely just solder connections on your power supply. If the only diag LED that lights is on the supply, then thats usually the case. You can unplug the set and remove the supply to fix it with a little soldering. You have to remove the metal board supporter from the bottom of the board and solder quite a few connections. Look for cracked connections on the power connectors to the rest of the set, and also connections on the main transformer. If you need soldering experience, get a kit at radio shack and build a little project to get some practice.
