No, the Singer 4562 doesn't have a drop-down feed dog mechanism. Instead, you need to cover the feed dog for darning or other free-motion sewing. The feed cover is part of the original accessories that came with the 4562. If you need to replace it, the feed cover plate is available from several sources. You should be able to find presser feet for your machine as long as you know what type of shank your machine takes. Just confirm that whatever you choose will fit a Singer model 4562. You can even purchase a snap-on shank adapter and then purchase snap-on feet for your machine.
try these suggestions 1. change needle--flat side goes to the back of the machine 2.check the thread take up lever & see if the top thread stay on it or jumps off, that can make the birds nest you mentioned 3.top tension ususally is on 3 or 4 if you don't have a instruction manual follow these steps
