Just bought a vacuum that broke in 2 weeks. returned to costco and now need to buy another one asap. Any recommendations for something that's not junk. Lori BTW noticed that pics of the Eureka bagless hepa looked identical to the hoover bagless hepa vacuum that I just bought/returned. Am i crazy or is this the same vacuum?
If it is value-for money you are looking for, Look in the Ads papers for anyone selling a Kirby G3 or G5. Yes these are heavy - but they are power assisted! They really do "beat" the carpet, and have enough vacuum to lift a fitted carpet UP.
I bought one 8 years ago, and have only relpaced 2 belts in that time.
It is what the hotels use every day.
The second option for longevity is a Henry. These again are used industrially, but are no good for carpet beating - only removing surface dust by vacuum only.
The third option would be a Dyson or similar design of bagless, but it MUST be a good brand name, and priced middle to top.
The price does reflect the build quality and materials used.
Make sure you change the pad filters when specified or the motor will burn out. This is a known fault.

Re: Need to buy a new vacuum cleaner
A dyson isn't bad, kirby vacuums are very good, but heavy and expensive, orecks are very light, it all depends on what yo are looking for, I don't know about your vacuum question for sure about being identical since I don't use those vacuums all that much but many are similar in design

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC16. Although your cleaner will no longer be under its original 2 year warranty, the new motor assembly would be covered by a 12 month warranty if you purchased it directly from Dyson. As long as the cleaner has been used in accordance with the terms and conditions described in the manual, we should be able to replace this for you.
Alternatively, we could arrange to have the cleaner returned to us for further inspection.
In either case, please get in touch with us directly so we can discuss the issue further. You can call us free on 08002980298 - our Helpline is open from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sadly you need to return to dealer, any problem contact Numatic (www.numatic.com), who supply it with a good 2 year warranty, which the dealer should support. This is a fault I see about 1 in 100, so you are a little unlucky. It will need a new switch and can easily be fitted by the dealer. With Henry's usual life expectancy anything from 5 -20 years it is well worth getting sorted.
There is a hinged bracket for this unit which has a 5" bolt through it. It comes from CanaVac who manufactures under label. If you cannot find this large U shaped bracket on the body or in the bucket, either return to COSTO or call Canavac and explain. A used bracket from an old Canavac will fit, nothing else will. If Costco is sold out you will not likely get one through a Hoover service center since they just don't break and it is a newer body style for Hoover made under private label.. A Canavac dealer might have one around FYI if you got this unit at $200 off you got good value, if you paid full price and need to wait for a bracket, shop around for a different brand. While the unit and tools are good , the Hoover power head is the Achilles heal on this package. If you use it more than an hour a week , you will wear it out within 3-5 years as it is their light duty head. If you have the bracket , hang the unit on a double stud if possible or 3/4 plywood braced across two studs. Leave 24-36 inches slack in your low voltage wire at the motor and coil around a pencil or long philips screwdriver, making it phone cord style... your wife and neighbors will think you are a pro...... Post back if you need more info.

Have the model number, the country it was made in and the date it was
made. All found on sticker on bottom of unit. They are foreigners that
answer the phone, so be prepared to spell everything. It takes 3 weeks
to get the parts but I found them to be inexpensive. The part you need is called steam pocket frame and it cost about $15 from them. I just ordered one, mine broke too.
I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.
a few steps down in Google, I found the whole manual in adobe format! I only need the filter for vacuuming, so I'm in the clear---except that it won't spurt soapy water out...I just squirt it on with a spray-bottle and use the brush and suction from the cleaner. Sorta fixed the problem but I'm desperate to get on with cleaning this very small area (an RV)
http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=0&thid=846706 Generic problem for all Vacuums I have had my Dirt Posted by mamavelda6 on July 28, 2008 I have had my Dirt Devil for just less than a year. I bought it in September, '07. Last week I was using it and it suddenly stopped running. I can see no reason why. I need to find a nearby repair station. I cannot afford to buy another one. I bought it at Kmart; it was on sale for $49.97. Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I can see your problem but if it is anything more than a new belt or brushroll, it would be cheaper to buy as new one because the price of the part plus the labor fee will be more than the price of a new vacuum or you can buy a good used one from your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. If it is the motor then definitely buy a new vacuum. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://royalvacuums.com/Customer Service 1-800-321-1134 Hours are: 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM(EST) Thanks, Don the Vac Man Go Ahead.
