I have a loose Moen Eva towel bar on the wall involving one of the two mounting brackets.
I do not know if there is a male/female bracket portion inside the towel bar bracket that is loose or the wall mounting screws are loose with the drywall?
There may be no wood backing behind the drywall and I need to remove the towel bar wall bracket to see what is going on.
I have tried to remove the Moen Eva towel bar from the wall using a flat head screw driver inside the slot (not a set screw) on the bottom section of the towle bar bracket. I was told by Moen to insert the flat head screw driver and depress a spring clip and then pull the bracket from the wall. However this does not help me remove the towel bar bracket fom the wall. Can you suggest a better way to remove the bracket?
U have to really push hard up on the spring and at the same time pull towards u
Removing the towel bar is fairly easy. Use a small flat screwdriver that fits in the hole, and lever the tab towards the wall.
There is a screw underneath that can be tightened and if that works, you're done.
But 9 times out of 10, it is the flimsy Moen wall anchor that is loose and will have to be replaced. Remove the screw entirely and remove the plastic wall mount.
Now, remove the metal wall anchor. This may take some thought -- you don't want to break the drywall.
In my situation, with thick drywall, I took a grippy pliers and worried the anchor out towards me. Remember, it's flimsy and should bend before the drywall breaks. But take it slowly. Alternatively, you can probably tear the flange off the anchor's shaft and push it through, to drop inside the wall. Grippy pliers do more than just grip.
Once you have the anchor gone, get a "toggle anchor" from the hardware store. I used the type that was mostly "screw" and it anchored just fine. Then reattach the Moen mount with the screw that came with the anchor (you may want to add a metal washer inside the Moen plastic) and replace the towel bar. This should last forever.
