The 2-Piece Agitator/Auger assembly is a very poor design by Maytag. There should have been a recall on this part. ANY load no mater how big or small results in the Auger floating up off the agitator. Our Maytag SAV255AWW had this problem within a few months after we purchased it. It's too bad the store where we bought it went out of business. We will never purchase another Maytag appliance again.

Loctite sounds the order of the day. Don't overtighten once the thread lock is in place and allow to cure before using machine.

Maytag washer noise during wash cycle

Check for the tighten nut to agatator is tighten. If agatator is lose it floats up and down during the wash. There is a lock ring (rubber) on the shaft that holds the agatator on, check this, if off replace thid . If the agatator is still in good shape can still use it , if not pull of and replace it. This work is't hard to do.

Loose Agitator

Usually, there is a bolt that holds the agitator on. If you remove the cap off the center of the agitator, you should find a bolt underneath that you can tighten back down. Adding a little thread lock to the bolt wont hurt.

Agitator fall off and knocking noise during spin cycle

there should be a rubber washer with the bolt. if it is missing the bolt may back of during agitation. also the threads on the transimision may be stripped. Some Green lock tight found in most hard ware stores should help. the knocking noise is probably due the agitator coming loose.
