How to turn on Sony Trinitron without a remote control

I have a Sony Trinitron model KVC296. It did not have a remote control and I got a URC22B Universal. When "quick searching" the codes in the remote with the TV on (back then it would turn on by simply pressing the "Power button", it seems that I finally found the proper code and the thing shut off. Wonderful! But when I tried to turn it on again, the thing would not work. The red light in front of the set flashed three times and then shutted itself off. I unplugged the TV set and let it rest for a while, then plugged it back on and pressed the "Power Button" on it. But every time I got the little three red flashes and that was it. I tried different codes with the remote, but it would not work. I was puzzled and after a little Googling I found about the Sony Blinking Codes. Three means some overload protection going on in the power supply. I took the back cover of the TV off to see if I could spot something burnt and found quite a lot of that black powdery dirt inside the TV. I vacuum cleaned it all very carefully, without touching any components and then I tried to turn the TV set on. Bingo! The three blinks were gone and the stand by light was on steadly, waiting for my command. Now I tried the usual Sony codes in my remote, but the thing would not turn on. Of course, the quick search mode in the remote is meant to work with the TV turned ON while you do the search. And the geniuses at Sony seemingly haven't thought of the possibility of the remote control failing and the not unlikely need to turn the TV set manualy, so there is not an ON button other than the Power Button which lefts the TV in stand by mode.
So, to make it short, is there any way to turn this Set on without a remote? Thanks in advance.

Good day.
Please check with the channel buttons of your unit. They replace the power buttons functions.

We have a sony trinitron tv that after using sleep mode turns itself back on after a couple hours. any idea how to fix this?

Get into its menu, come over to timer settings. Set the timer to 0:00. The set never get Off after that. Now, it might be set to 2:00; I assume. You should have its remote control to set this, as some Sony Trinitron models will not have a Menu button at its front panel control; to enter into its menu option.

Hello
The original remote control of your TV is available at Ebay. It is priced $8.99. Just order them with the exact model number of your TV and order for a remote control of the set. They will get it at your doorstep. OK.

Verizon FIOS remote buttons all work except Volume. Sony Trinitron WEGA remote has to be used. Volume is Fixed. Can something be done to control volume with the Verizon remote?

I had the same problem with a Sony Trinitron KV-32FS320 32" TV. I reset the remote to factory default.
  • Press and hold STB
  • While holding STB, press OK
  • Release both keys, wait for device keys to blink twice
  • Press 9-0-0. The STB key will blink three times
Then I reprogrammed the TV control.
  • Turn your television on
  • Press STB to enter Set Top Box mode
  • Press and hold TV
  • While holding TV, press OK
  • Release both keys, wait for device keys to blink twice
  • Press 1-1-2-7. This is one of the Sony TV codes
After this, the volume + and - worked to control the TV.
  • Program any other devices, such as DVD using procedure similar to above.
I hope this works for you.
