Hey, you said you dont get anything on the screen at all.

Do you hear any beep sounds?

If you don't hear anything and no picture comes up,

there are a few possible reasons

1. bad vga
2. faulty memory
3. cpu failed

Try with a difrent vga card

    If that doesnt help,

try changeing the memory cards, example remove one

then remove the other one and put the other one back in.

check your cpu is it burned.

  • Ekse Mar 21, 2008

on top of those 3 reasons there is a 4th one

    4. motherboard failty.

  • Ekse Mar 21, 2008

Please take the computer to a local pc repair shop or a professional for analysis.

or contact dell / dealer for warranty repairs.

  • Ekse Mar 21, 2008

yeap, well good luck, theres not much to do since you don't have exeprience / knowledge in the internal parts of the pc.

And it seems to be a hardware problem witch needs to be analysed by opening the pc and so on..

If you need anything else let me know :)

and do vote my support as helpfull or fixya if this is solved.

    Thanks

It's possible that you have RAM problems. If you have more than one RAM module in your system, try removing different modules and seeing if you can boot. If you can boot with one of them removed, you've found the bad module.

Aoes it give any diagnostic beep on start up?

If the computer does regular single beep then it can be the screen that is gone.
Check first the screen cable moving it and checking that connector is well plugged in the socket.
Then find a spare screen, even old crt ones are fine, and connect so that you can test for sure if it is the screen.

Once you are sure that it is not the screen, start troubleshooting the PC:

1)disconnect pc from poer outlet for 15 mins. and connect pc back to the power cable, this is called hard reset and sometimes fix issues related to firmware or static charges problem.

after this there are two possible situations:

a)the computer does one beep and shows something on the screen, then freezes while booting up

b)the computer does not beep and show blank screen or black screen from start.

It will be easier if you tell me in which of above situation you are.
Pleas answer if you read this.

disconnect just ehernet cable on faulty pc, not power on router, and please correct my rating, I am not supposed to follow you if you refuse my solution (as you did), it is part of the game.

You have not attempted anything because I did not even ask, unfortunately Fixya rating system seems not to be clear enough. There is no point for me in going on with assistance once my solution had been refused, you may get help from other expers.
    Sorry about this.

there are several issues and there are several solutions for this problem. I need you to please be more specific. Usually when a computer doesn't boot up, it goes to the initial black screen and usually it will display a message by the top left of screen where cursor is blinking. Please tell me whet that says, and I will tell you exactly how to fix the problem.

Have used dell dimension 2400 hard drive died replaced it now it only goes to boot device menu or black screen with blinking cursor

You will a full blown version of whatever software you want to install. Also try using the F8 key during bootup. See if the computer will boot up into Safe Mode. You should be able to made System restore disks from there if it will get that far.

My dimension 2400 wont turn on it has a green light on the motherboard but wont boot up please help

What you can do is to try to open the casing and remove all the connections specifically the cables/connections from the power supply. Reconnect the cables and try it again. if still not, reconnect the memory modules and disconnect the connection/cable of the hard drive and give it a try. If that works, just do the same process and reconnect the cable back.

Note :
Ensure to unplug the computer first from the power before doing this. Once you have unplugged the computer from the power, press and hold the power button for 3-5 seconds. this will discharge all the remaining power that is stored on the capacitor.

Hope that works..
Happy TS...!

try tapping the F12 key over and over when you see the DELL Screen to bring you to the boot menu....with your CD in choose to boot from the CD and it should allow you to run the OS installation from there.....your machine is trying to boot from the hard drive that has no OS on it.

I have a dell dimension 2400 with a blinking amber light what do i do

Hi,
The blinking amber light on the dimesion 2400 generally means that the power supply on the system has gone bad. Switch off the system and disconnect the power cord from the back of the system . Press and hold down the power button in the front for 10 seconds.
Reconnect the cable back and try powering on the system.

If the same ,fails you would have to take the system in for repairs

Thanks for using Fixya

Dell comp

Hi,
To help you better , could you let me know , when the system goes into sleep mode, the power light in the front of the tower is it amber or blinking amber or is it of some other color.

If the power button is blinking amber , the power supply on the unit is going bad.
