Question about Baby Gear
Hi thanks for answering my question about getting wireless happening on my Sharp PCAX40 notebook. I am running Windows XP on the laptop with no probs.
I just installed the modem for my current ADSL onto it, to see if I could get faster internet working on it (I only ever used dial-up on it previously) and it all installed and connected without a problem. Im pretty tech savvy when it comes to adsl connections but have never had wireless or any dealings with it ... I know you have to get a wireless account and a wireless broadband modem... thats as far as my knowledge stretches.. Lol !
what else do I need to do ?
it would be great to take this little notebook O/S with me because it's so small and compact.
You will need a wireless router. People have different preferences towards these units I prefer netgear. They are cheap, reliable nary a problem.
You connect the broad band modem to the uplink or internet slot.
But first, connect your pc or laptop directly into 1 of the 4 ports on the router before connecting the router to the internet.
open your browser, IE/Mozilla, whatever you are using. if the router log in screen does not appear (which it should by default)
type in the ip address of the router where normally you would type in the web address (www.geeks.com) netgear uses 192.168.15.1, username Administrator, password is password.
from here you can plug in the uplink to the modem and let the configuration utility configure your internet settings.
A unit like this is what I have, link, however the router is what you need for your home wireless. I live in a small town in upstate NY and where I am there are 5 homes nearby I can connect to wirelessly. I didn't have to purchase my own router.
I purchased mine for 29.95 USD last year.

Tips for a great answer:
Verify if your Windows 7 is 32 bit or 64 bit, than download the
driver accordingly from the Sharp website. Also try upgrading the driver ,it
