SRS stands for Supplimental Restraint System. It's a fancy term for the airbag system. If the airbags have not actually been deployed in a crash, the indicator can be triggered if you turn on the ignition with part of the SRS system disconnected (for instance if you removed a seat and disconnected the wiring harness underneath), or if a component has failed.
