Question about Compaq Presario 700 470024-192 Notebook

3 Answers

RAM Hi! I just bought HP Compaq Presario C700 3 days ago. So far it is performing well. Though Vista is a little bit of RAM eater. So I upgrade my RAM from 1Gb to 2Gb. Now im testing it for 2 days and it seems that it is not that fast yet. Is it possible to upgrade my RAM to 4Gb? Or i only need to install some softwares to make my Notebook run faster. Thanks in advance

Hi, I checked your computer out, and you can install 4GB of DDR2 laptop RAM, upto a max speed of 667MHz.

You have two slots, so you can do this via two x 2GB DDR2 667MHz sodimms. I choose Kingston, as it seems to be the most compatible that I've seen so far.

However, you are likely using a 32bit operating system, so despite fitting 4GB of RAM, Windows may only indicte 3.25GB, or 3.5GB, or thereabouts, due to the fact that a 32bit operating system cannot address more than 4GB of memory addresses. This will not be a problem, and the extra memory will still add to performance.

Though I also suggest that you disable unnecessary Vista processes to make your computer much faster again.

See for a list of what proceses you can, and cannot disable.

Requirements for building up a pentium 2

I'm not sure what you want to do, but you will find that you are going to be severely limited in what you can upgrade on the mainboard. This is because the mainboard was built specifically for HP/Compaq and as such the BIOS is not as generic as with an brand name mainboard that you can buy. Thus, you will find that you may have fewer CPU and RAM upgrade options. There is a good chance that you can probably expand the RAM capacity above 2GB. Remember though, that if you are only running a 32-bit Operating System, you will be limited to 3GB of accessible RAM regardless of the amount installed. Realistically, you probably won't be very happy with whatever performance gain(s) you can get for the money you will spend on this machine.

That said, most newer HP/Compaq desktops utilize a fairly standard ATX case. This allows you the possibility to install a completely new mainboard/CPU/RAM to gain massive performace benefits for the money spent. You may even be able to continue to use the existing hard drive and CD/DVD drive if they are SATA rather than PATA interface.

The brand of RAM is not important, it's the type, you'll need SDRAM for that and an AGP4X type of graphics card... here's some several selections

Hope this helps... Just don't forget to rate - thanks.

the PC is most likely bloated with lots of useless software, viruses, malware etc, but upgrading ram will give the biggest increase in performance, I would reccoment atleast 1 GB for windows XP systems and 2 GB for windows vista systems.

Regarding a warranty/windows vista upgrade

You can get it done at Bestbuy, but their very expensive. Take it to a small computer shop in your area, you'll get the same technical service at a much better price. Here at my shop, I can undercut the local Bestbuy by $100 every time. As far as the ram goes, 384 will run Vista, but it will be a little sluggish. Upgrading the ram will improve the performance of the machine and is always a good idea.

How to upgrade a new compaq presario SR2150NX?

Add more RAM, 512MB ram will slow your computer down because when you run out of ram the computer uses the hard drive as vitrual ram. I have 4GB in my Vista machine and it is faster than XP.

Another suggestion is to turn off the hard drives indexing. Right click on your "C" drive and unhook the "index this drive for faster searching" box.
