Question about Compaq Presario 700 470024-192 Notebook

3 Answers

RAM Hi! I just bought HP Compaq Presario C700 3 days ago. So far it is performing well. Though Vista is a little bit of RAM eater. So I upgrade my RAM from 1Gb to 2Gb. Now im testing it for 2 days and it seems that it is not that fast yet. Is it possible to upgrade my RAM to 4Gb? Or i only need to install some softwares to make my Notebook run faster. Thanks in advance

Hi, I checked your computer out, and you can install 4GB of DDR2 laptop RAM, upto a max speed of 667MHz.

You have two slots, so you can do this via two x 2GB DDR2 667MHz sodimms. I choose Kingston, as it seems to be the most compatible that I've seen so far.

However, you are likely using a 32bit operating system, so despite fitting 4GB of RAM, Windows may only indicte 3.25GB, or 3.5GB, or thereabouts, due to the fact that a 32bit operating system cannot address more than 4GB of memory addresses. This will not be a problem, and the extra memory will still add to performance.

Though I also suggest that you disable unnecessary Vista processes to make your computer much faster again.

See www.speedyvista.com for a list of what proceses you can, and cannot disable.

Regards,

Erik.

I have a compaq presario cq61-410US and I use it a lot to play a game called League of Legends. It often has fps drops and freeze ups though. Im not sure if it's because of the computer proccessor

You have a Graphics Adapter integrated into the Motherboard it's not upgradable Disabling unnecessary processes will help quite a bit. Adding more RAM is a option, depending on your OS, 32 or 64bit? 32bit will use 3.80GB's or so, 64bit 4GB's or more. your specs say you have Windows 7 64bit with 2GB's of memory, is that correct? If so add up to 4GB's of Memory Max, SEE: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01966130 In the BIOS you MAY be able to adjust/increase more Shared Video memory? The game usually has a Optimal Setting for your machine. Have you done ALL your Updates for Windows and HP? ALSO I use RAZER GAME BOOSTER freeware on my lower spec machines to disable ALL unnecessary processes, you configure what you want to disable during game play: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html Give it a try , it's safe, free and works for me.

My presario 700 has a memory of 240mb, not quite sure, but can it be upgraded? up to what maximum ram?

hi,

yup your memory can still be upgraded up to its maximum supported RAM of 384 mb with a RAM technology SDRAM

note:
upgrading your RAM to that size doen't make major difference to its performance and you can't hardly notice it difference.

Will compaq presario v2000 support windows 7

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

How far can it be upgraded,eg.ram,graphics,processor.etc

With a laptop computer, nearly everything is integrated onto the system board. This means there's very little you can do to upgrade the computer beyond adding additional RAM. You can also install a larger hard drive, but that's not really an upgrade. Replacing the processor wouldn't be worth the cost and effort as it wouldn't make a noticeable difference in your computer's operation.

The best thing to do if you are really unhappy with your current system's performance is to install as much RAM as it can take. Other than that, put your money into a replacement computer that already has the specs you're looking for.

Regarding a warranty/windows vista upgrade

You can get it done at Bestbuy, but their very expensive. Take it to a small computer shop in your area, you'll get the same technical service at a much better price. Here at my shop, I can undercut the local Bestbuy by $100 every time. As far as the ram goes, 384 will run Vista, but it will be a little sluggish. Upgrading the ram will improve the performance of the machine and is always a good idea.

RAM

your laptop has:
PCs built for Windows XP normally can handle 1 GB to 2 GB of memory.
PCs built for Windows Vista normally can handle 2 GB to 4 GB of memory.

This is what you need and the pricing is there too.

Buying a laptop

I wasn't aware they still put mobile Pentium 4 processors in laptops. If you can, you should get an Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo.

Other than that, the specs look pretty good. You might want to upgrade to 2GB of RAM though if your computer is going to be running Windows Vista.
