What is safe mode

Safe mode is what the remote will boot into if there is a problem with some of the software on the remote. It is the same as safe mode on your computer, where the remote will boot up with as little programming as possible to avoid hardware faults. To get the remote out of safe mode, you have to reapply the firmware onto it.
- connect the remote to your computer and launch the software - click downloads at the top of the screen - click firmware - update the remote

Harmony 890 remote has solid blue screen

Try putting the remote in 'safe mode' before doing the firmware update. I can't think of anything else you can try, but 'safe mode' --> Firmware update often does the trick. Here's how:

Launch the Logitech Remote software on your computer and click on "Downloads" (on the top menu bar). Then, take the battery out of your remote and at the same time you connect the USB cable to your remote (it should be already connected on the computer end) press and hold down the Off button at the top of the remote. This will put the remote in "safe mode". Continue to hold down the Off button until you see the message "safe mode requested" on the remote's screen and the screen starts blinking. Now, since your screen is not behaving properly, you may or may not see this message, but after about 5 seconds you can release the Off button. Now, go back to your computer and click on "Firmware". If the software is able to communicate with the remote, an update to the remote's firmware should be executed. This has solved many a 'blue screen of death' problem. Good luck!

Harmony 1000 in safe mode?

The harmony remotes have a built in safe mode, similar to a Windows XP computer. Usually you enter the safe mode on the harmony remotes by taking the battery out, then pressing the power off button and holding while putting the battery in. If you continue to press the power off button, the remote will display safe mode on the screen.

If you are not doing the above procedure and you are still getting the safe mode on the display of the remote, I would try to update the firmware on the remote. And if you have an RF Extender, update the firmware on it at the same time.

Hope this helps,
