Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I seem to have a belt slipping maybe. Clothes are not wrung out as they usually are at the end of the cycle and there was a sort of burning rubber smell last time I used it. I looked at the belt under the machine and it is in good shape (I recently replaced it); I also took the agitator out and found alot of muck, hair and I shudder to admit a piece of ballet stocking from one of my daughters. Do you think it was this that was causing my problems? I'm not game to turn it on again. Thanks ... Sandra

You may have cleared the problem when you cleaned under your agitator. The belt may still need replaced if it was glazed while it was slipping as the burning rubber smell you mention would suggest.

I would give it a light or no load try while standing by and check to see that it agitates, drains and spins ok as you advance the timer to test all functions, and of course turn it off if it acts up.

Good luck, and please update us on your results?

Maytag washer spin dry cycle end clothes still wet what could it be belt slipping ? seems like not spinning fast enough

Hello,

Either the belt or the transmission. Take the belt off, if it looks glazed, replace it. If not the trans is bad friend.

if it has a belt, it may be slipping, but you would smell a bit of burning rubber.in high use times(4 to 8 pm), the current of electric supply is low, thus less power. third, motor may need to be replaced. plz rate-bozcro

Washing machine spins slowly and smells of burning rubber

The belt could be worn and will be slipping on the pullys, as it spins up the rubber , rubs against the pullys and that is what creats the burning rubber smell, the belt needs replacing.

Frigidare top loading washer 6 cycle - 10 years old

you may want to inspect the bottom part and see if it still uses fan belt. it could be that the belt is loose and the motor is spinning but can not drive the transmission. so the rubber burning smell is coming from the slipping belt.

the solution is to tighten the belt or replace it if necessary.

Water leaks and spin cycle not working properly

Water leaking from the bottom usually indicates either a bad hose , bad hose connection to the pump or a leaking pump. Also sounds like the machine is not spinning out. Is there water left in the tub at the end of the cycle?
