Question about Washing Machines
You may have cleared the problem when you cleaned under your agitator. The belt may still need replaced if it was glazed while it was slipping as the burning rubber smell you mention would suggest.
I would give it a light or no load try while standing by and check to see that it agitates, drains and spins ok as you advance the timer to test all functions, and of course turn it off if it acts up.
Good luck, and please update us on your results?
