Kenwood KDC-MP202 sound turns off when headlights are turned on

Everytime i turn on my headlights at night, my system's sound turns off. its not the whole system, just the sound. i kno i blew a fuse when i first installed it, but it was replaced. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

ps. during the day i have no problems with the system, and the sound is great, its just when i turn on my headlights is when the problems starts

    nope the brown wire is not connected to anything, and i dont have any amps or anything of that sort. i mean, could it be a fuse or sumthing?

  • Dremaniac Mar 22, 2008

    ok thnx for the info but it still doesnt work. i took off the red and yellow wires from the stereo and put them to the blue with yellow strip, which is the +12 volt battery wire. and i left the gray one from the stereo harness alone. and it doesnt do anything but let me play the system with the car off. but i have nboticed the when i turn my lights on, the clock light gets dimmer. should i try the fuses?

Just solved a similar problem on my car i bought a Cd/dvd player for my 2000 concord lxi i hooked it up and hooked a rear-view camera and it worked perfect but wen i turned the headlights on the cd player shuts of so i disconnected the orenge wire that came out of my cd player from the orange on the aftermarket harness then grounded the ping wire (rear con wire) it worked fine but i couldn't see any footage from the camera for that i bought a long red power wire and hooked it to the red camera power wire that hooked from camera to reverse light and took the other end of the new wire i bought and hooked it to the orange wire that came out of the cd player now every thing works fine. you probably dont have the right power to run both cd and head lights thats why you need constant power to run both just hook up an extra wire between a positive wire to the orange dimmer wire its simple;

ground to ground (black)
12+ positive to 12+ positive (red)
and an extra wire (usually a red 18 guage wire bought mine at walmart) to the dimmer wire from the back of the cd player (orange) kenwood KDC-MP202 sound turns off when headlights - edit.gif

Hi,

I am assuming that your power wiring is correct since it powers up,
Yellow - always on B+12 such as the + terminal of the battery
Red - switched on B+12 such as the ACC terminal of the IGN switch;
Black - chassis body ground (GND)

If everything works, then I can only suspect that you have also wired the brown wire. This is the telephone mute for use with some mobile phones. Removing its connection to anything (if wired) should correct your problem.

If you have an external amplifier, you may also want to check that the pink/black wire only goes to the remote trigger terminal of the external amp. and nowhere else.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Appreciate the post back and additional information.

    That being the case, I then would venture that the switched B+12 is not getting enough "juice". It would seem that the headlights are consuming the lion's share of the power and little is left over for the radio. To verify this, temporarily remove the red and yellow wire from where they are currently connected and wire both of them directly to the +12 terminal of the battery. If stereo works even at night (with headlights on) then the connection points of either the red and/or the yellow are loose or not properly tightened.

    In some rare instances, it is the body ground/chassis. The same verification procedure could be performed,. Run a wire from the battery's - terminal to the chassis of the stereo.

    Pls post back for any development(s).

    Cheers.

    Additionally, it could be the fuse holder, clamps or clips or those holding the fuse terminals.

    Hi XX,

    Could you pls try a different wire preferably a new wire solely and exclusively to the yellow and red of the stereo straight from the battery's + terminal. Not the blue with yellow strip or any other wire from the car's harness. And pls to the terminal itself, not any of the wires connected likewise to the + terminal. You could simply insert it between the battery pole and clamp.

    I'm thinking, you're probably right about the fuses and/or possibly the fusible link.

You need to wire in a constant power use your meter and turn the key off and look for constant 12v power with the key off that is the wire that runs your memory clock,presets etc..
