Instation of Maxtor diamondmax 21, 160 GB which is connected to my pc running Xp Home. The Bios and xp home do not seem to recognize it. How can I get a installtion software. Please help.

Dont think you need a driver unless you are installing it in a raid ...the purpose of sata was to elliminate hdd jumpers and configuration ... just go into the bios and make sure the sata channels are enabled

Floydage, some ribbons are different in the orentation of pin#1. try a differnent cable...but you said that you tried that right.? have you tried to make sure you have the latist BIOS. It could be this paticuler drive have a different bios it self...and yes drive's do have chip's and software in them. If nothing ells just load the OS to that drive anyway and than change the drive letters in windows.

Bios recognizes 4gig ram but XP OS only 3


You need a operating system 64buts to reconise the full 4 GB, there is no solution otherthen upgrade to XP 64 bit and you have to have a 64 bit processor as well good luck..

My maxtor drive doesn't work as a slave drive. It is recognized by bios but not by windows XP

Maybe your hardisk is not compatible with xp, was it an old hardisk? Try it with other computer if it detect.

isnt there a jumper setting on the back of the hard drive to cap it at 32 gb?

Maxtor Can't Touch


I understand the problem you are going through and it is due to the fact that win xp sp2 install an NTFS filesytem on its hard drive and this file system was designed to be secure in a way that you don't remove disk drive or add disk drives just like that.Now the best solution would be to just reinstall you xp machine with sp2 with the hard drive already in the case.In this way xp will be able to recognize it as one of its own drives and now you will have access to it.
