Re: Printing Problems with the iP4200
Mebbe you are in the market for new drivers? always wonder why the printer folk don't explain that when new cartridges are installed, so should new drivers..sheesh.. go here for those, the express route(look for canon icon)

Ok so on reading this it appears that your are barely printing black. 1. have you tried a genuine canon cartridge? 2. have your performed cleaning on the black cartridge? 3. Start the printer and ask it to print something. While it is printing kill the power and gently move the carriage to the left. On the right side of the machine you can now see the purge unit. You will need a torch shining on the purge unit. check it to see if there is a paper scrap anywhere near or on the purge. It may be soaked in ink so may not be easly seen.If so remove it and perform cleaning again. 4. Clean the wipers on the purge with a dry cotton bud.
If none of this works then its looks like a blocked/weak printhead and you will need to replace it.
I read somewhere that if the printer receives instruction from the PC that it requires black only printing (e.g. a letter in Word) then it will use the 5PGBK tank. The 8BK tank is used with the other colours in photo printing only. If you check the greyscale option, it will use ink from the 8BK tank and mix with the CMY colours to print, but I have not tried this out.
Check the printer driver. I had the same problems - b+w with green tints, colors not rigt. I'm using a Mac, but noticed that under the Color Matching options of the printer driver the default is "vendor matching" - switch to "ColorSync" and see if that works for you. Did for me.....
