Thinkpad T61 Display Problem

I have a Thinkpad T61. I bumped the computer and lost the bottom right hand corner of the display although the functionality of the computer was not affected. Is the LCD repairable or do I need a new display?

LCDs are not repairable, it is something you need to replace when defective. They also happen to be very very expensive to replace.

Is the screen cracked at all? cause sometimes when laptops get bumped, it is actually just the lcd cable inside the laptop that came a little loose and isn't making a full connection. If the screen isn't cracked or anything I would at least look into a possible loose cable first If you are not comfortable taking the laptop apart, I would bring it to a computer shop and have them take a look at it as some laptops can be complicated to open up. They shouldn't charge you more than about $40 to take a look at the lcd cable, they are normally pretty quick to get at. It is worth a shot as lcds typically range from $400 - $1000 and to have someone install it would be probably another $50-$100

hope this helps a little

LCD backlight replacement

If the LCD screen on your IBM laptop is going dim, chances are the backlight is breaking down. The good news is that if you don't want to spend the money to have a technician replace it, you can do it yourself. There's no need to open up the main body of the computer, but you will have to get into the screen to do the work. Here's how.

Power off your IBM and remove the battery. Remove the nine screws (three on each side) on the side of the screen. Once the screws are removed, the plastic bezel (screen guard) can be removed. Pop the bezel out, exposing all of the LCD screen. Pull the LCD screen gently away from the computer by the corner. Be mindful that the screen is still connected to the computer by a ribbon cable. Remove the tape over the ribbon cable where it connects to the screen and gently pull the cable to disconnect it. Turn the LCD facedown, and remove the piece of tape that holds the top metallic foil against the back of the LCD. Lift the metallic foil to expose the backlight. Remove the single screw at the end of it that holds it in place. Unclip the wire at the end of the backlight from the inverter (power source to the backlight), and remove it from the LCD. Replace it with the new backlight (available at any electronics store or online). Be sure the new backlight is compatible with your particular IBM model. Reassemble the computer reversing the order in which you took it apart.

HP Elitebook 2530p switches on but no display

Hello!
Just a quick one or two at the moment. Have to locate the problem then figure the fix sooooo..

1. Please refer to the photo: Note the 'hands', one at the top right and the other at the bottom right of the screen. With the power on and the computer in the normal ready to use mode....

What I suggest you do is hold the bottom right corner firmly, keeping it relatively immovable while, at the same time, GENTLY, and NOT completely, SLOWLY start bringing the top left corner down toward the bottom right corner, actually moving the top barely an eighth of an inch, flexing just a tiny bit...

If the display flickers then, hopefully, it is a loose display cable, usually a flat one that lies under the keyboard and need only be adjusted. a tedious but very inexpensive solution.

Another quick, albeit unlikely fault to check is your battery. I know, I know, it's so obvious but I have to ask: Have you tried using the computer from a DIFFERENT wall outlet, better still, at a buds house?

Let's get these two out of the way before moving on? Let me know! I'll look into recalls, frequent problems, etc....

I'm having a Lenovo T61 Thinkpad. All of a sudden my laptop keeps turning black. I keep getting the error message that display driver stopped working but recovered successfully but this may not always be...

Hi. I think you have uninstall your display driver and download the updated drivers on the Lenovo driver support website.

Go to this website and download the video driver for your laptop: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?doctypeind=9&template=/productselection/landingpages/downloadsDriversLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo
just make sure that you choose the correct or corresponding operating system that you have on your laptop (e.g XP, VISTA or Windows 7)

After downloading the video driver install it on your laptop then restart you computer. Goodluck!

Reinstall the drivers from driver CD & install all the drivers properly and let the system itself install them. It will reboot several times.

My t61 just wouldn't turn on, so we replaced the hard drive, didn't have the operating system so ran linux on it. Now I cannot turn it on again. whats up you think? Its 2 years old.

T61 usually has a 3 year global warranty, if you had the hard disk replace from the Lenovo service center itself they are supposed to be giving the operating system along with the Hard disk.

1. do you get any display on the screen thinkpad logo?
if yes your Hard disk and other hardware devices are functioning properly.all you need to do is reload the linux again.
if you are not getting any display, you have a memory (RAM) or a hard disk problem. which needs a replacement

Green flickering squares when i turn on my laptop

Something's wrong with the display driver or the display card. You can try opening up the T61. The contact on the display chip or the display connector is probably corroded. Try pressing them a bit (not to hard). if it's the display connector, try removing it and placing it back. I've had this problem before with some other notebook. It's ok when in safe mode because safe mode doesn't use the higher display functions.

Lenovo T61 - When I go to Control Panel and select Display, all I get is Themes tab. How do I restore the other display tabs?

In Windows Vista you right-click the desktop background, and select Personalize...

Select Display Settings to open the Display Settings window...

To change the appearance of the control panel...

When you first open the control panel, on the left side off the pane click Classic View to revert to the older style of the panel.
