Question about HP LaserJet 4L Printer

1 Answer

4L has died?

Printer has been extremely reliable. Suddenly a couple of days ago--no power. I checked the power cable and connected another, still nothing. I checked both fuses--they are good. I looked at the board and there's no evidence of a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to look at or is it finished?

Thanks,

LD

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM...BUT I HAVE NOT CHECKED FUSES...I HAVE 2 4L PRINTERS, ONE WORKS THAT I BOUGHT FOR 5 BUCKS, BUT THE PRINT QUALITY IS POOR..THE OTHER NO POWER..IT IS ONE I HAVE HAD FOR YEARS..HOW DO I CHECK AND CHANGE FUSES?

I had the same problem with the two printers I have (it happened right after I turn off the power off in the switch protector).

Is a burial the only feasible solution?

    THanks

Time to give it a decent burial..parts on those old 4L's are mostly drawn from others that are no longer functioning..

maybe you ought to have an HP wake, and a decent burial?

at any rate..that sounds like a power supply board went zonko..

Lexmark x4650 hi, I have plugged a in the printer, nothing happening at all , no indicator lights, it has suddenly died , last used it a couple of weeks ago , any suggestions ? thanks

Verify that the power cable is firmly connected into the printer. Plug the printer in to a different outlet, one that you have confirmed works (plug in a lamp to verify that the outlet works). You may plug in the printer without the computer connection to test this. Check to see if the printer has an additional power switch on the back near where the cable attaches. If the problem persists, verify that the voltage is correct with a multimeter. The output voltage should correspond to the DC Output value written on the adapter. Confirm that this voltage matches the DC voltage required by the printer as written on the underside model placard on the printer. If the voltage is incorrect and the adapter is the correct one for the printer, replace the power adapter. If the voltage is correct then there is a problem with the printer that requires repair service. You may want to consider a new printer if this one is not covered by your warranty.

Won't switch on.

Your expert reckoned it was definitely the mains cable, but in fact I bought a new one, still no luck, and the machine has definitely died it final death. I am buying a new A3 printer (some expense!).
Thanks anyway.

That's an error with the ink. Try updating the firmware on the printer. Here is the link to the latest firmware from the Kodak website.

I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago. We found that for some reason the printer was on "Pause" on our main network PC. This was of course effecting the whole network. Hope this helps!

HP Laser Jet 4L - No Power

it's possible that the power switch alone just needs cleaning. Take it apart down to seeing the copper contacts and then polish the copper contacts with emory cloth.

Power

Replace the power switch. A fairly standard switch type. You may get one off ebay or similar site. If push came to shove, you could just replace the power input assy.

Printer suddenly dead

It's possible the power supply died, however, there is a 3amp fuse on the slide in power unit that could have blown. I would check it before taking it to the recycling pile. If you mess with it be careful around capacitors, they'll hold a charge even if not connect to power for several days.
