Question about GE GSS20IEM Side by Side Refrigerator

Right side of refrigerator not cooling; frezzer working great

Turned the refrigerator to coldest setting and the temperature remains cool not cold. Turned the freezer to highest setting and the refrigerator still remains cool. Found some ice buildup on back wall of freezer. Also removed the channel that directs the cold air from freezer to refrigerator. Didn't see or feel any obstruction. did see a metal coil coming from refrigerator to freezer. Don't know what that is for. Was not connected to anything on the freezer side. Seems to be connected on the refrigerator side though.

Any suggestions?

My refrigerator is not running or cooling. We have unplugged it but that didn't work. It just quit today. The freezer works great. Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!

Refrigerator top rack is warm. Temperature shows 65 degrees

if your freezer can make ice and the ice is dry, the problem is simply air flow into the refig section. A very common cause for a service call that wasnt needed for reefers is the settings. One setting OFF 1-10 usually, operates the compressor. The remaining setting will say , for colder freezer or similar, It opens a little flapper door between the freezer and the fridge section. If you set that one to max or coldest freezer it will actually starve out the fridge section for air ,and you get a cold freezer and warmer box! It happens everytime someone has the problem , its too warm! they peg both controls to coldest! The compressor will coll the freezer sufficiently even if set to 1 and the fridge should be cool too if the setting isnt pegged to coldest setting thus closing down fridge air and making the freezer colder which isnt ever required!

Right side of refrigerator not cooling; frezzer working great

The coil is the thermostat that controls the damper which allows more or less cold air into the fridge compartment and should be put back as you found it. Very important. The problem is that the freezer is not defrosting, hence the ice build-up on the back wall. Either the defrost timer is faulty or the defrost heater is blown. There are two thermostats behind the freezer panel, one in line with the fan and one in line with the heater and they will be clamped to the pipework. Both these thermostats should be closed when iced up. If the fan is not running, that could be faulty too or its thermostat.
