Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Pioneer HDTV Projection Monitor. Model # is as follows. #SD-533HD5. This was manufactured in June 2002. The middle gun is not on. This is the green gun. If I tap at the base of the gun, it will flash on, and may stay on or off. Eventually if it does come on, it will go back off and the screen turns Pink. I have been told the gun is bad? Is this true? i have been told that I could spray contact cleaner on one of the boards, and this may take care of the problem until another gun shows up. Is this true? How difficult would it be to change the gun myself?

It is going to be extremely hard to locate a bad solder joint. They all look good on this gun and board. Any suggestions? One more senerio. Sometimes when it is first turned on, it will work for awhile, then gun goes out and picture turns pink. Would this indicate that the bad spot is most likely on the board? Sorry, just unable to determine a bad solder joint.

Good call. I found the bad solder point on the bottom of the board of the gun. Now, I have soldered before, but I think this is a little more fragile than I have dealt with. How do I resolder without screwing the board up? Do I need to desolder first, then resolder? My soldering gun is fairly big, should I use something smaller?

Hi Rich.. I dont think it is a fualty gun in the first place! When you tap on it, then its coming on means that there is some dry solder(loose contact). Care fully examine the circuit for any broken or loose contacts. Re-solder any weak joints and it should be up and running..

If you know how to use a multimeter it would just be a piece of cake! Just take down the readings and post them here.. If you cant do this too then better take the assistance of a tech and tell him to look for a dry solder.. trust me my monitor had the same problem and the tech just put his soldering gun on one of the Ics and Its back to normal

You need not desolder the thing. But you should use a smaller soldering gun and also the smallest available soldering lead. Preferably 5.8mm or 8mm. Then carefully solder it.. Note that if it forces de-soldering feel free to do it.

Pioneer SD-533HD5 53 in. Rear Projection HDTV Television - Need Manual ....

ManualsLib has the manual for the SD-533HD5 here: . (The manual covers two models.) Once you modify the picture parameters (starting from STD, REF THEATER, GAME), these are stored as the User mode. If you press Menu when done changing the parameters, that input should maintain the User settings for the last setting until you change the Picture type. If you modified the parameters for STD and then return to that input and change the Picture to GAME, any modifications to the GAME picture parameters will become the new User Mode. See page 50 of the manual for the details: .

I hope this helps.
