Hi scotty, you'll need to re-check all your data & power cables in the PC. Play it safe, unplug the power from the PC & ground yourself by touching the bare case before grabing any internal connectors.
Than upplug & re-connect every data & power cable on every device in your PC. When finished go into your bios & check that all devices have beed seen by the bios. Hard drive, CDROM drives, floppy drive & or serial ATA SATA drives. While in the bios re-check your Boot order. Most PC's set floppy drive first, CDROM second & SATA / IDE third. Also set plug & play OS to NO. This allows the bios to set IRQ's instead of windows.
Save & exit bios. Load your windows back into the cdrom drive & when you boot the PC your windows should load. You'll see Press any key to load CD.......... Press any key.
This time around preform a quick format on the drive, than install windows.

Have more questions, feel free to ask!

Good Luck & Have a Great Day!

Do you have the PXE error?
The media failure is in the boot sequence, on the toshiba press F12 on boot to change boot priority, select cd/dvd or hard drive, or to preclude from happening, press F2 on boot enter BIOS, select Boot options make sure to set priority as cd/dvd, then hard drive, then network or disable network boot. network booting causes media failure.

I am looking to reformat the hard drive (ie restore to factory settings) of a toshiba equium a60 laptop. However, I have no manufacturer disks so wondering if it is possible?

I've had a look at the the Toshiba website:-

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=Toshiba+Equium+7100S+&x=9&y=8

It gives the impression that this is quite an old system. That being the case, re-installing windows requires re-formatting the HDD.

But keep the URL above handy, it may help with drivers you may need after the re-installationt.

Generally all Toshiba drivers you will find on this website:

PS: You should use the Toshiba graphic drivers because these drivers are especially designed for notebook usage.

Those files are related to your network card. You must be running windows 95, 98 or ME.

Reinstall your network drivers and that should take care of the issue.

Toshiba a60 laptop keyboard problem

it's possible that the keyboard is broken somehow, and a key is jammed: from what you're saying, probably the E key.

try checking the keyboard to see if anything is jammed.  if that doesn't work, try plugging in an external keyboard, if possible.
