It may be due to many reasons. 1.If your remote is not working or it's battery got over: But then not only the power button, but no buttons will work. 2. If your t.v receiver is faulty: Then also it should not obey any commands, not only power on/off command. So most probably, the power button of your remote is damaged. It may be an internal loose connection. It may happen if your remote has fallen down or anything similar. Get it repaired or have your remote replaced.

Philips tv goes to the settings screen when you turn on and it doesn't go off for about 20 minutes

This could be a setting in the set or a microprocessor issue--I will presume you have unplugged the set for a while and tried that.

No model number is indicated here but you might consider calling Philips with the model number to see if it is a known issue in your set or if there is a software upgrade for this.

I cannot turn on my surround sound on my Philips MCD700 Stereo using the remote, any ideas???????

So are you saying the remote doesn't work or that the unit itself doesn't work? Walk over to it and press the power button.

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:
http://remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Display&contents=help_deadremote&uuid=A12963989782821
They also sell replacement remotes.

Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.

or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remotes", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.

64p8342 Powers up,but no picture.

Try resoldering the vertical output IC have seen many of this model have hairline cracks on the vertical IC solder joints causing blanking of the CRTs while audio still worked.

Philips CRT Rear-Projection TV 64P8342

Something is preventing the power supply from operating:
Possible causes in order of likelihood:
1) Convergence amps failed overloading the supply (See if you can disconnect them)
2) High Voltage circuit has died. (Most common death mode)
3) One of the CRTs has shorted
4) The power supply itself has died (Is there a lot of dust covering it?)
See if you can isolate the failure by working down the list.
Hope Ya Fix it!
