To recover your desktop icons, right click on the background and select "Arrange Icons By" then just re-select the "Show Desktop Icons" option.
As for wireless setup, do you have your router properly configured? Follow the instructions in the router manual. Post back if you need more help along with the model of the router.
Cheers.

Might not have a wireless card installed ??

If your Toshiba Satellite notebook computer is equipped with a wireless Internet card, you can connect to a Wi-Fi access point by turning on the wireless switch on the side of the laptop.
However, the signal may not always be picked up by your wireless receiver; if that is the case, you will need to check your wireless-network settings and reconfigure the network connections manually.

Open the Network Settings program. Click on the Control Panel in your "Programs" bar and select "Network Settings."
This will give you options for modifying how you connect to the Internet.
Select "Connect to a Network" or "Show Network Status and Tasks."
Both selections will show you whether you are disconnected from the wireless network.

Select "Manage Network Connections."
This selection is located on the left side of the window; clicking on it will show you whether you are connected to a local area connection or wireless network connection.

Engage the wireless connection.
Turn your wireless switch to "On," then right-click on the wireless network connection.
Select "Connect/Disconnect."

Wait for the IP address acquisition.
It may take a few minutes for your Toshiba Satellite to pick up the signal and transmit your IP address.
When this is complete, you will see the word "Connected" next to the name of your wireless connection, and a series of bars that indicate signal strength.
Launch your favorite browser to access the Internet using the wireless connection.

Have Toshiba A10. Installed a proper wireless card. Set sees wireless but never wants to connect. Think it is driver problem but have the right driver so not sure what the issue is.

In network card setting there should be a choice to let windows configure the wireless connection or do you have a protected wireless network?

Is satelite 4300 wi fi capable? where can i buy battery of sateilte 4300 series?

If your computer has a USB-slot or a PCMCIA-slot, then it is capable of using a USB-to-wireless adapter stick, or a PCMCIA-to-wireless adapter-card.

Look on eBay -- find the model-number on the current battery, and search on eBay, being sure to search both "body" and "title" of eBay listings, to find "compatible" batteries.

Assuming you're trying to go wireless with an internal mini-PCI wireless card - this series laptops has lots of incompatibilities with WiFi cards. This one I know for sure works well: MPC13A-20/R. It's an 802.11b card and it flies. Get it.

Was it replaced with the same model graphics card? It sounds like a corrupt driver install. Try uninstalling and re-installing the graphics drivers. Sometimes it is necessary to run a utility like RegCure to clean up the registry after the old driver uninstall.

Where are my settings? wireless network on 4300 series.PLEASE HELP ME!

You need to post more information on your laptop. What operating system is on it? Try tapping the F8 key when the computer is booting up to get it into safe mode and if you can get to safe mode then you can go to the system utilities and into the restore/backup menu of system tools and then restore the computer back to the last known good working point. You would then need to re-install the driver disk for the wireless and start again from there. Just pressing any old key in hopes of finding a solution is always a bad idea. So, post some more information about the operating system installed please. Dennis
