To recover your desktop icons, right click on the background and select "Arrange Icons By" then just re-select the "Show Desktop Icons" option.
As for wireless setup, do you have your router properly configured? Follow the instructions in the router manual. Post back if you need more help along with the model of the router.
Cheers.

Might not have a wireless card installed ??

If your Toshiba Satellite notebook computer is equipped with a wireless Internet card, you can connect to a Wi-Fi access point by turning on the wireless switch on the side of the laptop.
However, the signal may not always be picked up by your wireless receiver; if that is the case, you will need to check your wireless-network settings and reconfigure the network connections manually.

Open the Network Settings program. Click on the Control Panel in your "Programs" bar and select "Network Settings."
This will give you options for modifying how you connect to the Internet.
Select "Connect to a Network" or "Show Network Status and Tasks."
Both selections will show you whether you are disconnected from the wireless network.

Select "Manage Network Connections."
This selection is located on the left side of the window; clicking on it will show you whether you are connected to a local area connection or wireless network connection.

Engage the wireless connection.
Turn your wireless switch to "On," then right-click on the wireless network connection.
Select "Connect/Disconnect."

Wait for the IP address acquisition.
It may take a few minutes for your Toshiba Satellite to pick up the signal and transmit your IP address.
When this is complete, you will see the word "Connected" next to the name of your wireless connection, and a series of bars that indicate signal strength.
Launch your favorite browser to access the Internet using the wireless connection.

My Toshiba satellite A305 model wireless not detecting any networks

First be sure your wireless is turned on. This is done either by a switch on the front or side of the computer or by a combo keystroke of Fn and one of the special function keys that has a picture of an antenna on it.
If you are sure your wireless is on, then make sure that there are wireless networks to detect. If you have the wireless router be sure that the wireless function is turned on and the SSID is being broadcasted.

How easy is it to install a Network Interface Card into a Dell Dimension 4300? Any advice on what make/spec of card to buy?

If your PC has USB jacks, you can install a your choice of either wired or wireless network interface cards without as much as touching any tools (except for maybe a razor knife to open the package). If opening the case is something you're not comfortable doing, this may be the easiest way to get network connectivity.

Installing cards is not that difficult, but you need to open the case and determine if there is an open slot available and which type of slot it is. Most modern PCs have PCI slots and a PCI express (or older AGP video card slots). Again, not too hard figure out which type you've got.. search for pictures of slots on google. Look for PCI AGP PCIe and ISA slots so that you might compare them with those inside your PC to determine which type NIC you'll need. Then, buy a NIC that matches the slot and install as per directions.

I hope this was helpful & good luck!

I have a toshiba satellite a350d-ba3 how to setup wireless connection.i got different networks but all need a keyword.I tried to set up my own network and it was successful.I had saved it on a usb,but...

You have two questions thrown. And I will try to answer one after the other. You said you have wireless card. If you have no WIFI in your location, your wireless card could not be used so you need a router from the Broadband connection which your satellite computer will have a wire connection from the router. If you have WIFI booster connected from the router, your wireless card will be used without wire connection direct from the router.

Im trying to add memory to my dell dim, 4300 desktop!!

That should work without any problems since the chips are 256. You can either try a bios update or clearing the cmos before trying to boot.

Let me know what happens after you try the above.

Compliancy : Wi-Fi®
Network Support : 802.11b/g
Wireless Technology : Wireless LAN

That is the internal wireless so no you dont you need any thing to set up a wireless connection
You need to set up your wireless network

Or you should have got an ethernet cable with the router usually small yellow, blue or blue. plug this cable into one of the ports on the back of your router then the other end of cable to the ethernet port on side (i think) of laptop anc conect phone line from main box to router. You dont need no software just switch on router wait a couple of minutes till all lights on router turn green and click on your internet explorer done!
