I can not get videos to play on my Sony mp3. I've converted my avi files to mp4 format and moved them over to my mp3. When I try to play it back on the mp3 it says that the format is not supported. What am i doing wrong?

I have the same problem. The mpeg4 can play on my pc and show in the my video folder on the pc, but once I tried transferring the files either by the NWZ-S716F acompanied Software or by other application, the files would no show!

I've been trying for days and still can't figure it out why! Ya, the person who wrote the instruction must have a "simple" mind.

Hi everyone, I had this problem with the Sony MP3 players I bought for my kids (NWZ-S615F). There's a new (free) video converter from iWisoft ( or which does the trick. I looked into the others mentioned here and there were some virus/trojan horse concerns but so far this one seems fine. I downloaded the file, then did a virus scan, then ran the application and did another virus scan. I've used it 10-15 times since then and did another virus scan and nothing comes up so looks good. Choose the output file format as the first option under iPod. If it hangs while doing the conversion, try to run the output file before you get frustrated - I've found that most of the time the conversion was completed before it hung and the video plays fine.

A big problem with the Sony-NWZ-S616F is that they give you squat for conversion software. What you need is Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate - Under the pre-set conversion options select "iPod (320x240)MPEG-4 Mini" than RENAME it make a new preset with say "Sony-NWZ-S616F" as the description. Don't change any settings either as it works just fine the way it was setup originally for the Ipod and I found that increasing the settings only makes it worse (in audio you lose a channel if you change anything and in video there is no real quality change it just takes longer to convert and wastes space on the player) - I have Ratatouille, Smokey and the Bandit, Surfs Up, Space Chimps and a few other full-length movies in mine. SAVE and CONVERT all your movies in your PC's hard drive and ONLY put in your player what you want to watch at the time and ONLY transfer 1 converted file at a time using a true USB 2.0 cable. IF It's too slow when transferring you will get an error that it was unable to copy the file. If you try to send over more than one file you might also get the same thing. It will take you about 45 minutes to convert an .AVI to a .MP4 but at least it will work on your player now..

This works for me and it's free as well: Get some free video conversion software called Super at this URL:

If you want to check it out first go to the website:

Once you have installed this software and are running it, select [Sony PSP MP4] as the output container. You don't need to change any other settings. Then click convert and when it's finished copy and paste the finished file directly to the player's VIDEO directory (don't bother synching via WMP). Then sit back and enjoy the show!

Remember that MP4 is a multimedia container format which can support any number of different kinds of audio, video and subtitle streams which means just because you have an "MP4" file doesn't mean it has the streams that the Sony Walkman wants (For obvious reasons, It definitely does NOT want those used by the iPod!)
The streams container that the Sony Walkman does recognizes are the same as those used by the Sony PSP. You need a coverter that can convert video files into Sony PSP MP4 files. These will play.
(You can get such a converter called Super at Eright
However, it's rather tricky: you have to link through three pages of detailed info and ads before you get to the actual download link. On page 1 and 2, click on the very last link on the pages to get to the next one. The very last link on the 3rd page is the actual file setup link. The pages are also full of ads - Make sure you don't click on a advertisement for another converter you need to pay for by mistake.)

I found a converter that you can trust. Go to and download realplayer by creative. Within the player is a convertr you have to convert it to wmv, then set the resolution at 320 X 240 and it should work.

I used the "Allok Video to MP4 converter" and chosen "iPod AVC (H264) Format(*.mp4)" from profile.
And then copied converted video to video folder of the walkman. It worked :)

I've been using Realplayer to download stuff onto my mp3. What video format on realplayer is compatible for this player?

Check the specification of your MP3 player to determine thetype of video file format it uses. Most common video files that MP3 players use are, AVI andWMV, there may be others such as FLV, MOV and DivX. If your player cannot play a video then it is anincompatible video file format, then you need to convert that video file to aformat that your MP3 player uses. Unable to play video songs. Which format does it support. Please help to find out the solution.

NWZ-S616F model is compatible with MPEG 4 or M4V video profiles at 30 frames per second,

I would suggest don't watch too long videos on this player because the screen is very small and watching videos on it after around 10 mins takes toll on your eyes.

Sadly sony has not provided any video converter with this player, so you may have to download free converter from internet called "Super" which would help you convert videos for this player

Which you can then put it directly on the player by connecting the player with the cable provided for PC connectivity and directly drag and drop the converted video files once your PC detects the player.

Pls note: if you have windows XP you would have to first install the Sony Software provided provided in the CD with this player, with Windows Vista and above you would not have to install any additional software

How do I load a dvd onto my walkman.

First off get the arcsoft media converter 3, then drag and drop the videos you want to get on your mp3 player into the program, after it converts it loads them onto your mp3 player as long as it?s connected, this program will also allow you to download YouTube videos and put them on your mp3 player too.

Transfer videos to my sony nwz-s616f

Firstly; is it in the right format? You say MP4, but the video needs to be specifically MP4 - 320x240 screen resolution. It won't play if the resolution is incorrect.

So get that fixed up first if that's what's wrong ( has a great program to convert videos to MP4). If not, sometimes my computer doesn't allow me to put files on it one way, but it will another, so try copy/paste instead of drop and drag. Hope that helps.
