Question about Belkin (F5D7231-4) Wireless Router

1 Answer

Installing router i have a belkin f5d7231-4 G+ router and have previously successfully set up a wireless network at home with it. I havr graduated from school and have moved and would like to use it to create a new wireless secured private network at home for my computers. I dont have the installation cd anymore and the computers im now using are different than previously used. I have tried resetting the modem and have been on with tech support for a while who only reads through their set of answers, which always just walks me through stuff ive previously attempted yet found to be unsuccessful! My modem and router wont communicate and i cant find an install wizard on the site!!!

How can i have an internet connection with my itouch gadget thru belkin router? thank you.

  • Touch the "Settings" icon on the home screen of the iPod touch.

  • Choose the Wi-Fi setting and turn it on. You may need to wait a moment while the device locates available networks.

  • Select the wireless network you want to connect to (Belkin something). You may have more than one option based on your location. If you are prompted for a password, enter it and touch "Join."

  • Opt to have your iPod alert you when there is a new network you can join. This can be useful if you are no longer in range of a network you have previously used. To receive these messages, turn on the "Ask to Join Networks" feature.

  • Tell the iPod touch to "forget" a wireless network that you no longer want to use, so it will not automatically try to connect you. Under the Wi-Fi settings, tap the ">" button next to the network you want to delete and then touch "Forget this network."

  • Expect that some wireless networks detected by your iPod touch will ask you to sign up for a fee-based service. If this is acceptable to you, open up the Safari application from the home screen. You will be taken to a website that explains the terms of service and accepts credit card payments for wireless Internet access.

Can I use this router with Linux operating system?

If this is a home router you were previously using with Windows it should also work with a Linux distribution, such as Ubuntu (and others).

This of course implies a successful Linux install with all your hardware being recognized.

We have purchased a new notebook{higrade brand vista OS} to replace a packard bell using XP the XP laptop connected no problem the newone finds the belkin router but won't connect to the internet are...

Do you have a wireless security protocol enabled, and if so, what? Install a wired connection to the router (use an ehternet cable to connect your laptop's RJ-45--looks like a wide phone plug--into one of the Belkin router's network jacks). Go to the router's management page using your web browser (probably If you have not previously set the password in your router, simply leave the password field blank and CLICK "Submit". If you have previously password protected your Belkin router, use the known password. If you have forgotten your password... you'll need to reset your router.
Reest Router: there is usually a small hole into whiuch a pin or paper clip can be inserted for this purpose or a small button to press. Most Belkins--IIRC--have the button.

Once you are on the Belkin router's management page, look for the wireless link and set your security protocol to match what your wireless card is capable of, set the password, save and exit. Use the sasme password in configuring wireless networking in Windows.

Belkin F5D8233-4 router & I pod touch wifi

What I would try is while the wifi is unsecure go on the computer and open up the browser you are using, on your router the default ip address is

type the router default ip address in the browser where you would normally type a web address

    Logging into the Router
You will see the Router’s home page in your browser window. The home page is visible to any user who wants to see it. To make any changes to the Router’s settings, you have to log in. Clicking the
“Login” button or clicking on any one of the links on the home page will take you to the login screen. The Router ships with no password entered. In the login screen, leave the password blank and click the
    “Submit” button to log in.
    Configuring the Wireless Network Settings
The “Wireless” tab lets you make changes to the wireless network settings. From this tab you can make changes to the wireless network name or Service Set Identifier (SSID), operating channel, encryption security settings, and configure the Router to be used as an access point.
Setting up an Allow Access List
    1. Select the “Allow” radio button (1) to begin setting up a list of
computers allowed to connect to the wireless network.
    2. Next, in the “MAC Address” field that is blank (3), type in the
MAC address of the wireless computer you want to be able to
access the wireless network, then click “<<Add” (4).
    3. Continue to do this until all of the computers you want to add
    have been entered.
    4. Click “Apply Changes” (5) to finish.

this will allow only the wireless device you select to access your router.
