Does my compaq presario CQ62 havee a sound card?

No it has Integrated Audio.

The term Sound Card is a misnomer of sorts, that has been used by those who review computers, and those who have no idea of what they're talking about, and relay it to the general public.
Just like stating a Graphics Card.

It is a Sound Adapter Card, and a Graphics Adapter Card.
A circuit board with either an Audio chipset, or a graphics chipset soldered to it. (GPU)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

A Sound Adapter Card, or a Graphics Adapter Card is removable.
Integrated Audio, or Integrated Graphics is not.

Integrated Audio is a audio chipset that is soldered to the motherboard. Not removable, or replaceable as an FRU by a general repair tech. (Field Replacement Unit)

[The chipset is soldered in a BGA. Ball Grid Array. Takes a BGA Reflow Machine)

Chip and Chipset are slang terms to represent I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Circuit

The Audio chipset manufacturer is not stated, but it is probably an audio chipset manufactured by Conexant, or RealTek.

Aplogizes for the 'long winded dissertation', but I despise someone just stating, NO, and not explaining why.
Regards,
joecoolvette

Speakers not working

That means that the audio card is either faulty, or the driver software for the audio card must be reinstalled.

To find out if it is the software, reinstall the software using the computer install disk.
If you do not have the disk you can download the drivers from manufacturer website.

If the card is faulty, that is because unplugging in a bad way caused a short or broke the jack socket solder joint on board.
In that case buy a replacement
Either external USB : StarTech.com USB 2.0 to Audio Adapter Sound card
Or internal:6 Channel PCI Audio Sound Card Adapter for .
Audio cards are not expensive and you can buy a new one with a small fee.

Hi! Think you have installed adriver not recommended to be used with your pc. Try installing a diffrent version. You can download it from the link--
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/

If it doesn't work go to bios settings when your PC boots by pressing F2 key. Then go to Advanced options and change the value of

Onboard Serial Port 1 : Option should be set to 3F8/IRQ4 .
Onboard Serial Port 2 : Set this to 2F8/IRQ3
Onboard AC97 Audio Controller: Enabled

Thanks

Though you may haved installed the CMI8330 correctly it was not the correct driver. Check device manager. yellow ! points mean not installed.
Each CMI8330 are configured to work with different chipsets. Its a matter of finding the correct chipset matched with the right compatable CMI8330. No different than AC97 drivers. Newer versions just do not want to work with certain chipset. Lastly, if you know 100% it should work & yet it does not consider the device is defective. (only suggestion).
