I recommend using the USB cable. (Just like hooking up your printer)
Make sure that you download and install the software listed below USB click here for the software Visioneer doesn't allow you to download the software to utilize the scanner on their site. So hopefully you still have what came with the scanner. If not windows 7/vista should allow for very low level functionality.
After downloading the visioneer 9420 driver file (found on the visioneer site, but before installing it, remove your old 8100 driver, then install the 9420 driver by running the .exe file you downloaded from visioneer. Then, use Device Manager, go to -update device drivers and in the listing you should see the 8100 listed. Double click on it, click on -update, go to -browse my computer for driver software, then go to -let me pick from a list, then you should see the 8100 scanner appear, click on it, click on next, and then it will install the 9420 driver. My 8100 is working great on a vista system. Don't get rid of that scanner! It works!
I had the same problem. After I downloaded the driver I disconnected the scanner.
Then restarted the PC and after up, plugged in the scanner to my USB, Windows found it and installed it. Now the system recognizes the scanner. However, I am still
looking for a user manual to know how to use the scanner. I performed a scan ok to the desktop, but cannot find the document on the system. ed
3. Install the drivers. Nothing will work... yet, don't worry.
4. Now plug in your 8100. You'll get a message saying that Vista wants to find drivers. Select "Ask Me Later" or just cancel.
5. Next, open up Control Panel and then Device Manager. Find your 8100
in there (probably listed as "Unknown Device") and then right click on
it and say "Update Driver Software". Now click "Browse My Computer For
Driver Software" then "Let Me Pick From A List Of Device Drivers On My
6. Scroll down to "IMAGING DEVICES" then find Visioneer, then you
should see the "Visioneer 9420" driver. Select it. You'll get a
warning from Vista, but continue anyways. That's it... everything
Use "Get Adobe Reader" to get software to read the manuals, if you need it
Drivers and manuals are the very basic software for the scanner
Bundled software is also normally required or a suitable replacement to process the information from the scanner. However the links from here only seem to point to documentation -- no software http://support.visioneer.com/products/home/EOL/8100/default.asp
You may be able to contact them about software using the contact us link at the bottom of the page. You should attempt to assure the charges to be assessed for the calls I believe makes it clear that 900 and 976 numbers incur charges -- see link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premium-rate_telephone_number
"download"?? You don't download, you install.
Have you considered that the scanner might not be compatible with Vista?
