If you HOLD the start button down and the drier heats and runs, then your problem is most likely a relay which is supposed to energize (close contacts), which "latches" the condition when you push the start button. The most likely cause of such a failure, is a fuse or a thermal cut out, which has prevented normal operation. For safety reasons, being a gas appliance, I would NOT ATTEMPT to fix this problem yourself, unless you have licenses to service such equipment!
Very rare a motor fails on a hoover drier normally its the capacitor that fails. you can hear the motor humming but the drum wont rotate to proof its the capacitor turn the machine on press start listen for the motor humming open the the door of drier turn the drum by hand fast then shut the door as fast has possible then the drum should start going around . then this proves its the capacitor fault you are doing the job of the capacitor giving the motor a start .
I have had to change the door switch on every washer and drier I have ever had. Just a thought: If the door switch is bad the drier and washer will not start working. The one I changed on my drier about a month ago, when I opened the door and played with the switch while pushing the start button it finally came on. I changed the switch and no more problems. If the door is open the dryer and washer are not supposed to operate. I have changed some which you could not move around on those I would pull the wires off the door switch. Depending on if the switch is normally open or closed I would connect the two wire and try to start or leave them separate and try to start..
The owner's manual will tell you step by step how to program it. Normally you would follow these steps (with the engine off):
1. Press and hold down the two outsid buttons releasing only when the indicator light begins to flash.
2. Position the end of your hand-held transmitter about 1 to 3 inches away from the buttons while keeping the indicator light in view.
3. Simutaneiously press and hold both the desired button and teh hand-held transmitter button. Do not release the buttons until the indicator light flashes slowly at first and then rapidly. Then releas both buttons.
4. Press and hold the newly-trained button and observe the indicator light. If the indcator light stays on constantly, programming is complete and your garage door should activate when you press the button.

This sounds just like you have a bad door switch. You check it by taking the two wires off of it and taping them together. Then try the dryer. It should take off and run normally. If so, replace door switch. Good luck.
there is a holding contact at the motor wiring, check the schematics and trace that holding contact. it should hold the motor running as soon as it starts.
