the last button to the right on the bottom panel - that allows you to turn the monitor off or on when not using it - stuck, for lack of a better word when it was "off." I can press it/fool with it and the image comes on a few seconds so I know it is there, but can't make it do more than that. My perception is something happened to that switch that allows you to go back and forth - can I fix this?
-   my monitor will switch on for about two seconds then appear to switch off but image still there but faded. is it safe to open monitor up and attemp to change ccfl lamps. and is it costly?-   tivakudze
I used to repair LCD monitor from
Dell. It works for me. You might be using these following steps to examine what
is the problem of your LCD monitor. After you turned PC on and monitor stopped
working or went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen
or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best
angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or
any image (Start menu), there will be a minor problem. This is because of CCFL
lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace.
You don't need to do anything with the inverter board in this case. If you
cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter
board. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me
know.
Thank you,
See image for few seconds? Check capacitors on board and check for "dry/cold" solder joints. If u can see image if only for 2 secs then it is not your backlights.

I have a Viewsonic VX715 The issue with this particular unit is that the picture goes blank few seconds after it is turned on. If you turn the lcd off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on. Or change a resolution a few times it eventually starts to work and works properly untill turned off for a certain amount of time. There is not much inside the lcd, only the power board and a signal input board, for a lack of a better name at this moment. The backlight is perfectly fine, picture and backlight are both not operative untill turned on and off a few times. Do I suspect correctly that the powerboard would be the issue in this case, its a single layer board it would not be too difficult to replace any of the components on the powersupply board if required. both inputs have the same issue, does not appear to be a input issue. picture / backlight come on and work perfectly for around 2-5 seconds at first, after which the display goes completely blank but power light remains green. resolution can be changed and the picture will return for a moment with good backlight as well, after a certain amount of on, off, on, off or resolution switching the display operates perfectly for unlimited amount of time untill turned off again after which - being cooled down the on off routine has to be repeated. I've had the display apart a few times now and I can not find anything wrong with the boards.
