How to Replace a Dryer Door Switch on a whirlpool

First, make sure the peg on the door that pushes the switch is in place and the two snap pegs that hold the door shut are not broken. If any of these are broken, replace them first and see if that solves your problem. If not, here's how to replace the door switch: Unplug the dryer. Pull out lint screen. Remove two screws revealed underneath. Slide a 1" putty knife between the top and cabinet at the top front corners on each side, jamb it in while tugging the top forward to release the clips, one at a time. Lift top and lean against wall. If it's a gas dryer, remove lower front panel and loosen two 5/16" hex head screws for top front panel. If electric, loosen same screws at bottom of front panel. Remove two 5/16" hex head screws holding front panel from inside near top. Carefully tilt front toward you, holding drum in place. Lift front panel slightly to disengage bottom screws and remove. Gently lower drum until it stops. Unplug two (sometimes three) wires to door switch on right side. Now the front panel is completely free. Remove two Phillips head screws holding door switch onto front panel. Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly. Make sure wiring to door switch is secured to cabinet so they don't drag on the drum, and are not pinched. Be careful realigning the drum into the door opening so felt seal is inside the front glide ring on the drum. After the front panel is in place, gently hand turn the drum to make sure it is turning properly and the belt in still hooked to the idler and motor pulleys. If the drum falls off the rear rollers, or the belt comes loose, you will have to correct it before putting the front panel back on, as you cannot reach them otherwise. Taking pictures during disassembly will help get it back together properly. It really is not as hard as it seems, you may even be able to replace the switch without removing the front panel. Also, if you have a three wire switch, write down where they go or snap a picture. If it's a two wire switch, it doesn't matter, it will work the same either way. Good luck.

Need to get inside to reattach a hose...how do you get the side off

You do not take the side off. 1) Unplug the machine. 2) At the head, or control panel, find the two screws that hold it to the case. Some are on the left and right front lower corners of the panel, and some are vertical facing s on the rear left and right side. Also on some models they are in the front but you have to pull the end caps off the sides of the control panel. Further more in some of the newer models you have to take a thin paint scraper and slide under the left and right normers to press the clips in to release. 3) Remove the 2 screws and then pull the panel from the lower part of it towards you and roll it backwards. 4) Disconnect the lid switch connection in the the middle where the two grey wires and the green wire block connects to the body of the machine, usually near the middle under the panel. 5) with a flathead screwdriver pop out the two brass retainer clips on the right and left side. 6) Open the lid slightly where you can grab the case, not the tub, just the case, and pull forward and surprise!!! You just took the complete top, sides and front of the machine off.

My whirlpool washer won't drain and spin. It is 10 years old. Fix or repair? Please say fix!!!

In top load washers, if the machine goes through the cycles and then just stops at the spin cycle and leaves you with no noise and a tub full of water more than likely the lid switch is bad and not completing the circuit for cycle to continue. This is a safety precaution to prevent injury by reaching in the machine while at high speed spin. You can usually look and visually see the spot where the switch should be and if damaged. How to repair :
1) Unplug the machine. 2) At the head, or control panel, find the two screws that hold it to the case. Some are on the left and right front lower corners of the panel, and some are vertical facing s on the rear left and right side. Also on some models they are in the front but you have to pull the end caps off the sides of the control panel. The lid switch will be attached to this portion so located it, remove the two screws that hold it in place, under the lid, and swap out with a new one. This is a cheap repair, just take your time and you'll be fine,

Washer does not drain or spin. don't know how to release the plastic release latches to access the lid switch.

Hello,
On that stack washer/dryer the wayto get to lid switch is
remove diagonal panel between washer and control panel
in the back of washer top will either be 2 brass colored clips or in the very back egde of top will be 2 5/16th inch hexhead screws
for clips place a small screwdriver in front of that clip and pop clips off and slide top forward
for the screws remove screws from behind top in the left/right corner..pull top forward a bit and lift up a little the plug for the lid switch will be in front right side..squeeze the release for that plug, unplug swicth plug then remove top

in both cases lid switch asm. will be on right side of top on the underpart of it

The washing machine will fill with water. It will not agitate, spin or pump water out.

Greetings,

if this is a whirlpool, kenmore, roper, or other whirlpool made washer...the lid switch is bad in most case's....I do not know your model, but some of them have two screws on each left front corner..remove those and pull console to you and up...if the screws are not on front and are in rear corners...remove those screws and follow directions previously....some screws are hidden by covers that snap over the corners...if you see no screws in rear and there must be covers over front...anyway, once console is up..there is two locations that the switch could be located. the first, is left side, there is a plug with three wires with one of those being green(ground) the next plug could be located close to the middle rear right side...it sticks up and the plug pushes down into it..again, this has three wires and one being green...locate which plug you have and get a piece of single stranded wire... cut a 3-4 inch piece off and strip about 1/2 inch of wire from each end and insert one end in one end and the other in the other end of plug making sure none is green...this bypasses the door switch. start your washer in spin or wash if full of water and it should start providing the wires are in correctly and of coarse if this is the problem....if its a w/p brand..this is most likely the problem...if this is it. please leave me a testimonal of your satisfaction...thank you

I have a Whirlpool top loading washer model # 8525079. It is leaking out the front bottom, also will not agitate or spin, and will not empty. Any ideas on what could be and how to fix it?

lift the lid,do you hear it clicking,if not you have a broken lid switch, for the leaking,if it's in the right front sounds like the pump is leaking, take out the 2 screws that hold the top console in,they might be in the back of console corners, lift up the console, now remove the 2 clips with a screw driver and remove the lid switch wires, now pull up and forward and remove the frame, you can change the lid switch and check the leak, the wire you disconnected for the lid switch, get a piece of wire, srip off the two ends and stick it in the outside holes on the harness that plugged into the lid switch, your just jumping it out so you can put the washer into spin to find the leak, hope this helps,if you need any more help let me know

Does the front panel come off?

If this is a Whirlpool Duet such as the one you posted this question under, yes, the front panel does come off. It can be a bit tedious, but these are steps required:

1. Unplug the washer.

2. Remove the washer top panel by removing the three torx-type screws (or 7mm) where it attaches in the rear of the washer. The panel should slide back, and then lift off.

3. Remove the operator console by removing the dispenser drawer and the scew(s) behind it. Take a putty knife and insert it under the console seam right above the door. If you push in slightly while pulling outwards the panel pops off. Use care not to pull or damage any of the wiring. You can leave the wires attached and simply lay the console across the top of the washer out of the way.

4. Locate the wire hoop retainer around the rubber door boot. It is located behind the rubber seam where it attaches to the door frame. Follow this hoop around to the bottom of the door opening and locate the wire tension spring. Gently pry this spring apart and pull the wire hoop from the groove. Pull the rubber boot from the frame and push it inside towards the wash tub. You will also have to remove the door boot from the fill tube on the left hand side of the door opening. There may be a small wire clamp holding it in place.

5. Remove the three screws that hold the door latch assembly in place. This is on the right hand side of the door opening. You can leave the latch in place as long as you remove the screws and push it inside slightly to remove it from the front casing of the washer.

6. Remove the door by removing the screws holding the hinges in place. Use care to support the door hinges when loosening. They can bend. Set the door aside in a location where it will not get stepped on or broken.

7. Remove the lower kick panel under the door. There are 3 screws under the bottom edge holding it in place. You may have to prop up the front feet of the washer for better access (a 2x4 works well for this). With the screws removed, the panel will drop down and come off. Sometimes the panel can stick. A slight tap on either side will knock it free.

8. Remove the front washer casing by removing the four remaining screws that are holding it in place. There should be two at the top and two at the bottom. Set the front casing aside.

Is there a reason why you need to remove the front panel? If you need further assistance, please let me know. I hope this help you.

Whirlpool washer model lsr8233eq1 Hot water flows into the tub terrific. Cold water is always just a dribble. Not the hoses or water pressure. How do I get inside to where the water connection/flow...

Hi gastang,
The problem is with your water valve. It needs to be replaced.

To access the washer follow these steps...
UNPLUG THE WASHER!
1.) Remove the 2 screws from either side of the control panel.
2.) Pull the control toward you a 1/4", then rotate it up and all the way over.
3.) Remove the white plastic wire connector to the top panel (it has 3 wires in it.).
4.) Remove the two clips on either side of the top panel. Do this with a screwdriver. Poke the screwdriver into the top panel to engage the clip, now rotate the screwdriver toward the rear panel.
5.) Lift the lid (for a hand hold) and rotate the entire cabinet forward to about a 45 degree angle then slide it toward you. Set it aside.

Here's a video that shows how it's done. But you'll notice that the screws on your control panel are in the front, the video has the screws in the back, but the rest is the same. Here's the video.

After you have access, you'll see the water valve on the right.

If this was helpful, would you take a moment and rate my solution? Thanks,
SG
