It may be disabled and if so will not show.goto control panel and check network devices and check.
also check device manager to see if device installed.

Internet connection problems

A bit vague problem description, but try this. I am assuming you are using wi-fi.

If you have a network icon in your system tray (looks like the bars on your phone), left click on the icon and see if wi-fi is turned on. If no, turn it on. If yes, select your network, click connect, enter any passcodes, and see if you are in business. If wi-fi is on and your network is not shown, your router is not broadcasting (not a PC problem).

If no icon, open your device manager (move cursor to the right of screen, wait for menu, select settings, select control panel, select device manager). Under the Network Adapters entry, look for your wireless device, right click, and select uninstall. Make sure the "remove software" box IS NOT CHECKED... Reboot your machine. Sometimes if a device gets hosed, removing it and rebooting to let Windows reinstall it fixes the issue. If you do not have a wi-fi entry under Network, then you either do not have a wi-fi device, or the one installed is not working.

Good luck.

Wlan card disabled

The Dell Latitude E6400 laptop comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor for fast computing and an NVIDIA graphics card for video playback, gaming and Web browsing. The laptop has a built in Wi-Fi card, letting you connect to the Internet on-the-go. However, if you're unfamiliar with Dell or the laptop's factory installed Windows Vista operating system, you might not know how to enable to Wi-Fi.

Slide the switch on the side of the laptop toward the front of the laptop. This switch enables Wi-Fi connectivity on the Dell Latitude E6400. When switched into the back position, the Wi-Fi is turned off. Turn on your Dell Latitude E6400 laptop and log into Windows Vista. Click on the Windows "Start" button. Click on "Wireless," located in the Start menu's "Show" list. A list of currently broadcasting wireless networks appears on screen. With your Wi-Fi enabled, you can connect to any of these available networks. Secured networks ask you for a password when you click "Connect," while unsecured networks connect automatically.

Black screen after turn on

That "Blue Screen" is also known as "Blue screen of Death".

The problem is due driver compatibilty or unstablity.

Try to boot your system to "Safe Boot" by pressing F8 during startup.
Select "Last know good Configuration that works"
Check if it can take you to desktop.
Unstalled the wi-fi driver and reboot.

If the above procedure fails, again
Try to boot your system to "Safe Boot" by pressing F8 during startup.
Select "Safe boot"
Check if it can take you to desktop.
Unstalled the wi-fi driver and reboot.

Now create a restore point  and download the lastest version of your WI-Fi driver and installed.

This should work fine.

Otherwise Backup all your important data from your hard drive (mainly opearting system file installed drive usually C:\) and go for a new Installation.

Unable to connect to wi-fi

I think it is saying that the wifi "card" is set so that it is not being configured by windows.

In XP

Control panel > Network connections

Under LAN or High-speed internet you will see an icon labelled wireless network connection. Right click on this and then click properties. You will see three tabs at the top
General - Wireless Networks - Advanced

Click on wireless networks
There should be a tick-box saying Use windows to configure my wireless network settings. I expect that, in your case, the box is unticked which means that the software supplied by the vendor of the wifi card is configuring the settings. I find that it is usually more reliable to let windows do it.

So tick the box and click OK. You may then have to reboot.
