I also have a Maytag Neptune! I had this problem until I found out about these cleaning "pucks" they have. You put one into the drum, run a cycle on the washing machine and then after it's done, you use a "grit grabber" cloth to clean the rubber seal around the door!!!! It works awesome!!!!! You can get it at your local Maytag store or go online. I have recently found the pucks at Walmart! I do this about every 3 months! My washer stays fresh and clean!

My GE GTWN425dws top loading washer has a musty smell I can't dissipate with vinegar and baking soda. Is there a clogged filter somewhere? Something in a hose?

Set the load to large, set the water temp as hot as it allows, pour in two cups of bleach and run it with no clothes.

Hi We Have a ge front load washer and dryer and it seems that our clothes smell musty at times. I've tried leaving the door open on the washer when not in use. Could there be another prooblem??

Try using vinegar, baking soda, or bleach in an empty load to counteract any residues left in onboard water. Also check for debris stuck in door baffle(rubber sleeve between door and tub).

Front loading Maytag Neptune doesnt drain all water

the washer has a low level of water in it at all times. it will never completely drain out unless you pump it. this is one of the reasons there is such a smell with these washers, i use vinegar in rinse cycle and i use bleach once sometimes twice a month to keep mold and mildew smell away.

Musty smell

This problem is caused because the water does not get totally pumped out of the outer tub and sits in the bottom of the tub and in the front seals. Eventually a mildew type scum develops and causes the washer to stink and also impart the odor to clothes. Even though front loaders do use less water and energy, all of them have essentially the same design and therefore all will eventually develop this problem.
Run a load with just bleach (about 1 cup) and white vinegar (about 1 1/2 cups) poured directly into the washer with hot water and it seemed to help, but this does need to be repeated about once a month or so...

but with your wife's Asthma tho you could try
Typically the cause is the machine itself, but occasionally the water being used in the washer can be the source of the problem. If the smell resembles rotten eggs, you may need a water filtration system installed. After you eliminate any other possibilities, you can begin the treatment process. Create a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to 2 cups of white distilled vinegar. 3Begin a wash cycle using the machine’s hottest setting. As the water rises, add the baking soda and vinegar mixture. Let the washing machine complete a full cycle. If you notice any residue that has been loosened, use a cloth to wipe the surface clean. Run a cold water cycle to complete the process. You should immediately notice that the smell has been neutralized.

Clothes smell musty like wet towels after washed and dried.

check your detergent you are using, it should be a HE detegrent for High Efficency machines, too much regular detergent will suds up and nver be removed from clothing causing such a smell.a quick test to see if your using too much detergent, grab a sock form oyour drawer(clean one) place it in a glass of water and swish it up and dowen a few times, if soapy bubble wateris present then youre over soaping!

Bad Smell

you might ry removeing hte rear panel of freezer. gain access to the evapotator area, thats where the fan thatcirculates air is as well, if the smells stillback there washing the inside wont do anything. once fully exposed i would saturate area with an odor nuetralizer . I use odo-ban. and be sure to pour asolution of baking soda and water downt the drain assy (under the evaperator) that will allow the baking soda to reamin in the lower drip tray long after teh eater evaporates. once refrig gets vcold again the smells generrally disapate anyway
