Question about Philips 42PF7320A 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

Top half of screen goes black

I know someone else posted this, but I'm still searching for a real solution, or at least some idea of what exactly is causing the problem, if it is DIY fixable, or how much it might cost to get fixed.

After about an hour of use, the top half of the display goes black. Sound and the bottom half of the display are fine. Doesn't matter what cables or AV source I'm using (DVD, Cable box, Wii, etc). I've tried component cables and HDMI).

I've heard it happens with some Samsung plasmas too (they used some of the same inner parts as the Philips).

My screen sometimes goes black from the halfway point to the bottom of the screen. It may fluctuate from a normal picture to the half screen intermittently. Sometimes the black half will turn to a white background with vertical multi colored lines. The top vent on the tv also seems really hot with the left viewer side a slight bit hotter feeling than the viewer right side.

Sounds like your having problems with your Y-main(upper buffer) is getting too hot. The IC's located on this board are really bad about going out a lot. If you take the back cover off your Plasma. U will see that the manufacture of the panel is Samsung and the panel model is probably S42AX-YB01. you should be able to purchase the board. probably will run about $ 150.00.
Hope this helps

I'm guessing its the "CC", closed captioning. You have to turn it off, it's either in your menu or you have a button the remote saying either, Text or CC.
