Question about Toshiba TDP-S20U Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Its Dead?!?! My projector acts dead. I know I have about 2200 hours on it (first lamp), but I went to turn it on last night and nothing. No standby light even on. I checked my power connections at each end. Though I have it hooked up to a surge protector, I am leaning toward a surge causing the problem. So is there a fuse on these things that would be changeable? If it is a resister, capacitor, diode, or some other electronic component like that, am I even able to tear the thing apart and change it? I guess it would depend on if they are through mounted or surface mounted. Any idea which would be the case? I looked thru the manual and they don?t seem to give any guidance and anything that complicated. It actually says if problem is ?no power, contact dealer.? Who is that? Circuit City? They aren?t going to do anything. I suppose if relatively new they may replace it, but they certainly aren?t going to fix it. Maybe I am supposed to contact Toshiba? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there

You should contact Toshiba for any related problems , if it is still under warranty.

Most of the time it is only the fuse that has blown on the Main Powersupply Board. ( The one that takes in your power cable )

Worst case cenario you'll have to replace the Powersupply Board.

Write down your Serial Number at the bottom of the Projector and give Toshiba a call and ask them to check if the warranty is stil valid before attempting the above.

Hope this is of help !

make sure the lamp door is engaging the safety switch. if it is then the a/c input board is bad or the power supply.

Panasonic PTAE 900U with new lamp and counter reset shut off

Reseat the lamp.  I had a similar problem.  Replaced the lamp and everything worked for about 3 hours.  Then, turned the projector off.  Next morning, when I turned it on, nothing.  Stanby/On light flashed green for a minute then the lamp light came on and the projector went into standby.

Projector problem

I have a great deal of experience with that projector in particular.
The burning smell along with the circle on the screen can be one of two thing in the same general area. Both are not good.
The lamp assembly has its own dedicated cooling fans. these fans can sometimes **** in dust and insects. the lamp runs at a very high temperature and can burn those things quickly. I have often found old lamps with particles fused to the glass.
The other situation is that the lamp burned something and it got stuck to the glass somewhere in the light path.
if I remember right the projector monitors the temprature of the bulb and will shutdown if it gets too hot.
Runco is based in california and has a great turn around time on projectors. Unfortunately with Runco you would be hard pressed to find a technician that wouldn't just send it to them for repairs anyways. The major down side with Runco is that customers cannot talk directly to engineers or service men.
Locate a Runco authorized retailer in your area, check runcoes site. and give them a call to see if they cant send it to runco for you. if you cannot find one in your area call Roscor or Blair & Associates in Chicago.

they have a fuse on the power board inside the projector itself, But normally the fuse does not go bad unless their is a dead short in the unit.

Lp600 went dead

i had the same problem with my 2 years old infocus lp600. on the mains section of the power supply board you have 4 100uF/16v and 1 4,7uF/35V electrolyt condenser of a 85 degree type. that means it will work 2000 hours at 85 degree (celsius). since the power supply only switch off the lamp in standby with no fan the power supply get hot- i think about 70 degree. so after two years in stanby it is evident that this condensers loose halve of their capacity - after switch off no new start. changing this condensers with new ones of 105 degree type will solve tis problem. and for the future - no more stanby.
