At re-boot, Keys J,K,L,U,I,O,M always revert to the numerical mode.
I know to Shift-Numlk to switch back and forth, how to set as alphabetical
for default ?

NUMBER LOCK You have press the NumLk key (number lock) and this changes the right hand keys to a number pad. Press the NumLk key (also doubles as the ScrLk key to toggle the Number lock). it is near the F12 function key. When the NumLk has been enabled a LED light is turn on to indicate this function has been selected. Press the NumLk key again to turn off the Number Lock.
NumLk (Numbers Lock) has been turned on. Pushing U I O P results in 4 5 6 * and pushing J K L results in 1 2 3. NumLk allows a block of keys on the right side of the keyboard to function as a numeric keypad to facilitate easier entry of numbers or numeric related data. There is an indicator that will be on when NumLk is on. To turn NumLk off, you need to push the key that has NumLk on it. It may be combined with a function key in which case you will need to hold down the Fn key while pushing the NumLk. If you manage to push the right key(s), the NumLk indicator should turn off and the keyboard will revert back to its normal operation (without the numeric keypad).
On Thinkpads laptops the keys on the right hand side double up as the number keypad. To switch on the Number lock key pad on - press and hold the Shift key and press the NumLk/ScrLk key, it is above the F11 key, the Num lock LED will also light up. Press these keys again to turn off the Numer Lock.
The imbedded numerical keypad is on; At the top row of keys, there is a key with numLk on it. Press the function key, and the NumLk key at the same time and see if that fixes the problem.
