How to restore system

im assuming you have the recovery disk

Restart the computer and press the pause/break key on the keyboard.

This key will slow down the boot process and allow you to see the motherboard BIOS access key that you'll need to press in order to access the motherboard BIOS.

Press the respective motherboard access key and check the motherboard BIOS for a boot sequence.

Change the settings in the boot sequence so the primary boot device or the first boot drive is the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

Insert the system recovery disc into the disc drive.

Restart the computer and allow it to boot up before doing anything.

A black screen should show up with the words Press any key to boot from disc CD/DVD.
Press a key to have the system boot from the recovery disc.

Allow the system to load.

Follow the on-screen instructions on how to install the rest of the operating system.

There are many different settings for you to choose.
If the operating system is just a little out of whack, you can choose to repair it.

The system recovery disc will contain important drivers and software for all the components connected to the computer system.

If you do not have a system restore disc you can search the Internet for drivers and software that are packaged for your specific eMachines model.

Restore the BIOS to their default settings so the hard drive is primary boot sequence.

This is an optional step.

You can leave the CD-ROM drive as the primary boot drive, but it will slow down the startup process by a few seconds.

hope this helps

Then press F10 to exit and hope that CD/DVD would work...

I moved my cd.rom drive from a compaq evo along with hard drive into a dell tower and now my cd rom is not working when i press the eject button the light on disk drive comes on but it wont open when i...

A signalling problem of course. Have you fitted it to the Data cable properly? Check the Jumper Settings if it has Jumper Cables. Make sure it receives proper Power, enough to function well. Check BIOS settings to know whether the Rom is Detected.
You can try this while you are in the Windows as well. To check for errors you have to get the "Event Viewer".
  • Press Start menu and Click on Run.
  • Type in this and hit Enter.
  • Eventvwr.msc
  • If you see any error under the Category "System", related to CD Rom please le t me know.
  • You have to check the Device Manager as well. If there are any errors Related to the Rom you will see a Red X or a Yellow Exclamation marl near the Device (!). To get the Device Manager you have to Right click on "My Computer" icon and go to "Manage". (Or type devmgmt.msc in Run box and hit Enter)
  • Then click on Device Manager.
  • If you see any errors let me know.
  • Finally you have to check the Storage. Get the Device Manager again. (Or type diskmgmt.msc in Run box and hit Enter).
  • Go to the Properties if it Shows the Rom.
  • Check whether the Device is in use. Check whether it is DISABLED. If disabled, Select "Use this device (Enable)" to Enable it.
  • Make sure that you don't have Viruses (or a Corrupted antivirus Suite) or Corrupted Nero Installation.

One additional check. Make sure Plug and Play services are Running. You will see (if errors occurred) in the Event Viewer. You can check whether the Service is Disabled by Navigating to the Services Snap-in.
  • Type this in the Run box and hit Enter
  • services.msc
  • Scroll and look for Plug and Play. If its Disabled: Go to Properties and Set it to Automatic.
Hope this will solve you the issue.

How do I enable the drives on my Gateway 505GR?

Enter BIOS SETUP.
Change the "boot order" to put the CD/DVD drive as the _first_ boot-device.
Save/Exit, insert the CD-ROM containing the Operating System, and your computer should boot from the files on the CD-ROM.

Acer Aspire AM3100-U3202A ''hard drive'' will not boot up

That could be a hardware failure of some sort, or because you added a new hardware device. The "DMI pool" code has nothing to do with Windows, but is part of Plug and Play. Windows has not even loaded yet. It is the System Board BIOS startup code checking the hardware configuration, and setting system board resources for Plug and Play to use. Go in to the system board BIOS (normally DEL key when first powering on) Look in the PnP or PCI Configuration section, for an entry "Reset Configuration Data. It will show Disabled. Change it to Enabled, and save the new configuration and reboot. BIOS will set it back to Disable after it clears the DMI data and rebuilds it. The first time through, it will take a long time, but after that it should not hang. Unless there is a hardware problem with one of the adapters on the system board or PCI bus.
I have seen CD-Rom drives cause this hang, if there is a CD in the drive. So make sure there are no CD's in the drives when you start up.

Dell Dimension 5150 cd-rom stopped working

Open your tower and reseat all the cables that are running to the CD ROM (generally a flat white cable). Also reseat the other end of the cable to the motherboard too.
Ensure that CD Drive is enabled in BIOS (Press F2 as the system boots up to enter into BIOS) Please get back if you need any further help.

BIOS doesn't find SATA HDD

Hi fallacy,

If you have the system disks and you can boot from CD, I would just follow the prompts to reload the operating system. If the computer cannot see the CD or HardDrive you need to reset the BIOS setting to factory default settings and that should restore the drives to be used. Note: Hard Drive should be Primary Master and CD-Rom, (not DVD-Rom if you have one) should be Secondary Master. If you have a DVD Rom drive I recommend unplugging both power and data cords from it and making sure the CD-ROM is set to Secondary Master, NOT Secondary Slave.

This should allow you to boot to a CD and reload the operating system. Unfortunately your files are lost.

In windows go to the Control Panel+ Performance Maintance+System(system properties) + Hardware+ Device Manager from the list select disk drive and select the one that you are trying to access and on the general tab make sure that the drive is enabled.
NEXT In my computer right click on the drive and properties make sure auto play is selected for music. And then also if you have more than one CD/DVD drive you it can possible that the drive is set not to play video and music. The too you will find in the properties menu.

you should be able to exit and save changes, which my guess is you are exiting without saving the changes. theres is a way around this, by pressing either F8, F9, F10, or F12 to access the boot menu, and then you can boot from cd to install your linux operating system
