Question about Mitsubishi WS-55807 TV

Horizontal bowed lines

I have a Mitsubishi ws-55807 that has horizontal lines displayed in each CRT color. Red is the most visible. In the middle of the screen the line is about flat but above that they arc upward and below that they arc downward. If I turn down the brightness enough the aren't very visible, but when set to decent viewing levels they are definitely visible. I have some pics if you need to see them, but I don't know how to post them here. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sorry, I don't know. I bought the TV in this condition.

  • gumbyguitar Mar 21, 2008

Here are some pics of what I am talking about. See the bowed red lines? Thanks.

  • gumbyguitar Mar 21, 2008

That's kind of what I was thinking Troy, and I can remove the lines by turning down the G2 levels enough, but then the picture lacks brightness. If I brighten it with the "Brightness" control the lines will reappear. the CRT's were replaced a little over a year ago so I don't think they are tired.
Could there be something else in the video gain stage that would cause this? I have done a reset of the system settings per the repair manual, but I can't find any instructions on setting G2 levels. Do you have any advice on setting those or any other relevant settings?

  • gumbyguitar Mar 21, 2008

Thanks Troy. From messing with it the other night, I remember that all 3 CRT's produce the lines (are those what they call retrace lines?). So, when you said move on to the main board, what should I be looking for there? An adjustment or a bad component? Thanks again.

Troy is the man. I got the three G2 adjustements set and it looks great. Glad I didn't go the convergence IC route.

Looks like some of the convergence ICs are signing off! Now.. before we proceed further i just want to make sure that you are familiar with electronics and good at soldering and desoldering.. If you dont then you will have to seek the assistance of a tech.. Let me know so that we can proceed further

What this looks like to me is your G2 Screen voltage is up too high. Inside your set you have Screen and Focus controls on a block, see if you can turn down starting with blue, because it looks more like blue from the picture.

  • Lashawn Robinson Mar 21, 2008

or Maybe Red, it's hard to tell. (Screen)

  • Lashawn Robinson Mar 21, 2008

Yes, first I would say if you turn down each crt screen control and bring up one at a time do you see the retrace lines on each color seperate? If so then you would need to move to main board, if the lines are in 1 or 2 and not all then the CRT board would be suspect. Try this first, never mind the brightness now check the crt's screen control, keep in mind that if you turn any of them up to the max it will show lines, but try to get a normal picture and see if the lines are there? Let me know what happens

  • Lashawn Robinson Mar 21, 2008

Yes they are retrace lines, but what you need to check is make sure you are not turning up too high, once you start seeing video then that's enough. White picture, you can go to the service menu, "MENU 8257" use the audio button to select "VIDEO CHROMA" adjustments, Use the video button to select ITEM "68 - AG1", Use the adjust button to change the setting to 0 if not already, Then press the Enter Botton to STORE the Change. Try this first before going to main board.

The screen has bowed lines and different colors no sound

If the model as indicate here (WS-55807) YOU may have two problems: Convergence and a audio problem.

In customer menu select convergence and with the Mitsubishi remote try to adjust the grid of lines so no red etc--if bowed it will not adjust.

This would mean the two stk-392-570 convergence chips this model uses need to be replaced(I have free start to finish instructions for that).

The no sound may and is likely a second issue: speakers in the menu may be switched off etc.

If both happened at the same instant this model has a hard reset(not from front of set but with a 4 digit code and done with the Mitsubishi remote) This sets everything except convergence adjustments back to factory original.

It is called the OPTION menu.

So, did both issues happen at exact same time or what?

Parts for the convergence repair are under 30 dollars total and I can tell you where.

Questions?

Horizontal hold does not seem to work. horizontal lines in pic

hi,
Is there is white horizontal thine line on all over the screen then the screen voltage of you TV is high. Can be caused by bad base socket in the picture tube neck, faulty focus/screen block. Check the two things. You can see the base socket at the picture tube neck replace all the three base sockets for the three CRTs. if problem remains then you have to replace the focus/screen block. focus/screen block is one through which you can adjust the screen voltage and focus voltage. If the potentiometer in side it have some problem then this problem can occur. Have added the image for two items for your reference.

I have a Mitsubishi WS-55807 and the colors started to separate - you can reset it by turning if off and on again and it goes away but in time returns, starts getting blury then the colors split up - just...

In your On Screen Display menu (OSD), you should have a place that says "convergence". As a sub heading to this it will say "Auto-Convergence". This is where you want to be! Hit OK under AUTO, and watch the magic happen! If your set happens NOT to have AUTO, you'll have to do it manually. You're going to make the lines all match up doing one color at a time until all three colors are done! It's not hard at all. It may take a little patience at first, but just think of all the money your saving by not having a TV tech come out to your house and you'll be fine!

Good Day, Bocinga;

I hope you solved this concern by this time but if you have not;

Your TV is experiencing a convergence problem.
If you are not a tech type, call an authorized service center and have them give you an estimate.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

Convergence problems WS-55807

On this model if the fuses that protect the convergence circuit would open up, then the set would not come on. The convergence ICs probably have a cracked solder joint on the foil side of the circuit board.Re-flowing the the solder would help. I will always replace the convergence ICs when doing this job. The labor remains the same and you will have to pay a few extra bucks for the parts. Hope this helps.

The labor remains the same and you will have to pay a few extra bucks for the parts. To fix this yourself, you will need to be able to identify the two convergence ICs (STK392-570), have a basic knowledge of electronics and be able to use a soldering iron.
