Canon i9900 not powering on

Same as others. Had been working - albeit with the other problems I see mentioned here such as banding, and really odd color and clogged jets, etc - but suddenly will not power on at all. Have tried several outlets and nothing is working. This printer was fantastic for about the first 50 prints, and then intermittantly - and if you held you tongue just right - and the stars were right and the moon was full - you could get a decent print. So disappointed in this machine ;-(

Mine has just died too. A little over 2 years old, maybe around 1000 prints (so it wasn't exactly hammered in that time) but it's now kaput.
Have ordered a new power supply but as it seems the board has gone I will try and cancel that.
VERY disappointing a printer that cost nearly £400 cant last much more than 2 years of comparatively casual use.
Seeing how common the board fault is with this model it seems Canon supplied us all with a faulty product (like I said, a 2 year lifespan is pathetic for that kind of money).
A damn shame as the prints were beautiful when it was working.

Its either your power supply or logic board, assuming you have it plugged in to a live power source. Unfortunately in most cases it is the logic board, an expensive replacement. You may want to join me. Sledge hanmmer it and put it on Youtube. Cannon support is terrrible. Very unknowledgable people in my opinion;.

My old i9900 printer program is for a 32 bit intel platform only. I now have new compaq windows 7. What do I need to make i9900 compatable. Could a new printer cable work??

You will need new Windows 7 software drivers for this model and I don't think that Canon has released any. Check their website ( and see if they are available. Good Luck . . . .

After power surge, canon I9900 printer will not turn on?

You can try to power up with the printhead out, that sometimes causes it to not power up. Otherwise that machine is fried since you can't get a replacement logic pcb anymore.

Canon I9900 self test

You might be able to initiate the self test by powering it off first. Then, when you power it on, hold the power button down for 5 to 10 seconds continuously. In many cases, that will start the self test to run, But hold the button down for 5 to 10 seconds without letting it up at all, upon turning it on.

I9900 will not power up at all

Make sure the power cord is plugged into a live outlet. If it still will not power up check the power supply. I have heard those power supplies go bad and they can be replaced.

Will not turn on

Very late last night our power went out for about 40 minutes. Today my i9900 will not turn on. This is the second time this happens to my i9900. The first time, I was lucky, it was still in warranty (11 months 2 weeks into it). Now its exactly 1 year 2 weeks later, and the same problem has occurred. I believe the i9900 must have a very sensitive PC board. I have the printer connected to a UPS and nothing else in my home has exhibited a problem. I tried unplugging. Connecting to a different outlet, and interestingly, when you plug the cord, you can hear a very faint click or spark noise. The last time, when Canon sent the replacement, I switched the power supply but that did not fix the problem. It seems the problem is somewhere else. Anyone has an idea on how to fix? Will it require sending to a repair center? If so, any ideas what it will cost? Thanks... cokyq
