Question about Vacuums
Hiya Gotec..Standard Upright
If your upright vacuum cleaner is not picking up, but sounds ok when the motor is running, then the chances are you have one of the following problems.
1: Belt. The belt which links the motor to the brush roll (or agitator) has broken, or become stretched to the point of ineffectiveness.
The solution is to replace the belt. This is normally a straightforward task.
Turn the machine upside-down. There will be a few screws to undo to remove the cover over the brush roll. Take this off, and remove the old belt (or the remains of it). Don't forget to make sure that the drive spindle from the motor is clean and free of any old belt remains. Fit new belt and replace cover. The belt is Toothed cost in UK £10-15
2: The machine could be blocked.
If this is the case, the only solution is to dismantle it, starting with any removable hose parts, to locate the source of the blockage.
Motors may also fail.
The failure of the motor will often be accompanied by a nasty hot smell, and possibly a loud noise. Motors can be replaced.
