Can you describe the display problem that you refer to? While it is possible that the motherboard is the problem, without knowing details of the problem it is hard to say how to fix it.

The cheapest place you will find a mother board is on eBay. Search for a mother board for your machine by searching with the service tag number or P/N number on the white tag on the back. You may find that it is cheaper to buy a used laptop on eBay rather than a mother board.
New, original parts - probably not. IBM usually will only sell to their authorized service centers and technicians. You may be able to find used parts on eBay. Make sure you are getting the EXACT same replacement part - the wrong power supply can result in a fried mother board.
it should be under waranty seeing that the motherboard is malfunctioning again. normally the hardware will go out before the motherboard and seeing that its the same problem again mark the motherboard in a nice little place with a marker to insure they are not doing a repair and giving you back the same faulty board.
no its not a driver you have a video chip getting ready to fail.on the v2000 it intergrated in to the mother board. soon you will be joining many other compaq v2000 and m2000 owners in the search for a mother board compaq has updated part numbers it a whole differant board for these units due to having a common failure rate of the original mother boards.Compaq know there was a over heating of the video chip that leads to failure but has not offered any assistance to there customers. When you connected the external monitor thto the laptop did it display?
If so then you have to reset the monitor port. Hold down the function key and find the FKEY that shows a picture of a monitor. Press that until you get the laptop screen back.
